Why Sue Hates Sport

I am not a sports fan. I’ll say that up front. We had the Olympics in Britain in 2012, and I must have been one of the few who didn’t watch a single minute of the games, bar the opening and closing ceremonies. The same goes for Andy Murray’s win at Wimbledon and Tom Daley’s medal-winning diving performances. I’m thrilled that they won but I don’t watch – ever.

The Olympic road cycling went almost past our door, and my kids went to cheer them on because their dad took them. He is a good dad like that. They have a much greater sense of competition than I do, but more than that, my kids love the spectacle and the atmosphere; the sense of being part of history. All I think of is being surrounded by too many people and what happens if I need a wee?

I’ve discovered recently that my sisters have the same attitude and it leads me to wonder if it’s nature or nurture. None of family bar one brother are sporty at all. We rarely put ourselves forward for things and competition makes us cringe. Were our parents like this? I wish they were around for me to ask them.

Have you ever voted for anyone on TV in the talent shows? Have you ever voted for an author on a review site like Sid’s (hi Sid) or for end of year awards? I have voted for authors and no, not for me! There are plenty of authors I love with a passion. However when the results come out I am hiding off-line. What happens if ‘my’ author loses? How will they bear it? How will I bear it? There’s a four year old girl hiding in me.

I wish I was different because I see the camaraderie and excitement people get out of competition and team sport.  One only has to watch a football team to be part of something big. My daughter loves watching all the performances whilst I hide in the other room. She drags me in occasionally to watch someone special. In the meantime I lose myself in the solitary world of writing and wish that my inner four year old would grow the hell up because I feel I’m missing out on the world.

Do you enjoy being part of a team or involved in competition?

Author Bio

Sue Brown is owned by her dog and two children. When she isn’t following their orders, she can be found plotting at her laptop. In fact she hides so she can plot, and can be considered expert at ignoring the orders.
Sue discovered M/M erotica at the time she woke up to find two men kissing on her favorite television series. The series was boring; the kissing was not. She may be late to the party, but she’s made up for it since, writing fan fiction until she was brave enough to venture out into the world of original fiction.

Louis hates Valentine’s Day. He hates it with a passion he reserves for Marmite and footballers’ wives. Louis is also a florist and Valentine’s Day is his nemesis, turning his fingers into pin-cushions to make bouquets for men who give red roses to their wives and then ignore them for the rest of year.

Louis hates Valentine’s Day. No one gives him flowers. The only customer he likes is Arnie who buys a new bouquet every week. Arnie gives Louis a chance to explore his love of floriography; the language of flowers. It never occurs to Louis that maybe he isn’t listening to what Arnie is trying to say.

    Hi Sue
I’m just the same I’ve never been sporty or watch sport on TV. The only exception was the Olympics I watched the highlights when team GB won a medal. Also I’ve never voted or watched a talent show!!! I do vote for authors but only if I’ve been asked by e-mail or a Tweet.

I love to watch some sports but not for the sports. My favorite is men’s skating because those have to be the best butts in the world. Other than that, I’m pretty much lost in my own world of reading and loving every minute of it.
