TITLE: In Trouble with Angels
AUTHOR: Felicitas Ivey
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 40 pages
BLURB: With the increasing commercialization of Valentine’s Day in the 1950s, the Pagan deities of Love, led by Eros, gather to make sure everything runs smoothly. Shy, quiet angel Shateiel offers help, and Eros is quite taken with the cute angel, though he keeps his lust to himself. When the higher-level angels discover Shateiel’s little rebellious streak and how he’s been spending his time, they intervene to keep him from falling from grace. Now, Eros may wish he’d admitted his feeling before it was too late.
A part of the “A Valentine Rainbow” set of 14 holiday stories.
REVIEW:
Sweet Jesus! I haven’t read of all the Pagan dieties being under one roof before. So many, that I was partly overwhelmed but most of all hooked by the idea.
All the Pagan Gods and Goddesses who are worshipped for love have joined forces to make the Valentines Day a success! Making sure everything works out are Greek dieties, Chinese ones dressed in drag outfit (LOL!), our very favorite Cupid with his bow and arrow, Buddhist dieties, … you name them and Eros, being the eldest of all (though, he may debate), is given the authority of keeping an eye to make sure all runs smoothly. But this isn’t the only business that has his attention. A certain cute-looking angel has ways to distract him just by his mere presence around.
Shateiel has come forth to help out these dieties in their tasks. He is this sweet kind of angel who everyone adores. But we find he adores someone in the crowd too. When the arch-angels find out what Shateiel has been upto though, they keep coming one after another crashing the whole party. A violent one of them (Please I beg you not to ask me his name, because it would be a miracle if I remember!) hurts Shateiel badly. After half of their angel population had fallen, they fear Shateiel was on the verge of doing the same too. For Eros. But hell, if they would let that happen and all Eros wants is Shateiel’s safety … and his love.
What impressed me about this story was how the author had gotten so many mythological characters in one book! Irrespective of different religious beliefs, this especially gave the powerful message of how everyone is EQUAL! I have to say there were some funny moments with them being together. I loved the Chinese diety in the drag outfit and his one-liners! And I rolled in laughter reading about Cupid’s attempt to pass off as an adult.
Even with some amazing writing and a powerful concept, this story disappointed me in the Romance department. We don’t really get to see any moments between Eros and Shateiel and that I believe would work against a readers’ connection to the characters. Moreover, I thought it heavily focussed on the fight with the angels. Too many repetitive arguements were presented making it no sense to have run for so many pages.
It is basically a short paranormal story that showcases a great writing style presented by the author but leaves that feeling of something missing in the lot.

I would enjoy it for the deities.
I love PNR!!
Pagan deities…mmmm
While the theme doesn’t speak to me yet, maybe I should give it a try.
I love angels, deities could be fun too!
I do like m/m with a mythological bent!
Maybe this one would work better as a novella or novel length. I’m pretty sure I’ll like it.
Wow, first full paragraph into the review and I scrolled back up to see the page count again! Haven’t had luck with paranormal stories really.
Sounds great. I haven’t read many stories with a whole flock of Pagan dieties before. This should be interesting =)
Sounds interesting 🙂
