BLURB: When two stubborn boys fall in love there are bound to be fights, but when those fights become the norm and there are more bad times than good, is love enough of a reason to stay?
Alex Parker thinks the best way to save himself and his boyfriend, Tyler Matthews, from any more pain is to leave him and his hometown behind. He finally settles down in Texas and as they both try to move on, it seems like a lost cause.
A tragic turn of events causes Alex to drop everything and head back to Nebraska where he winds up face-to-face with Tyler for the first time since he left two years ago. The spark of attraction is still there, but will these two now grown men be able to overcome the years of guilt, hurt, and broken trust without breaking the bonds of friendship they’ve formed during their time apart in order to get their second chance at love? Only time will tell if their hearts can find their way back to each other?
REVIEW:
I always love M/M romance books about second chances and with second chances comes the angst between the main characters. I know! I can be a masochist when it comes to angst-y books. But yeah, I love them.
Back to You is about Tyler and Alex. They had been in a relationship for two years but lately they are having constant fights. They love one another. So much. So to “save them” (that’s Alex words) and to preserve that love and good memories from their constant fights, Alex chose to walk away. And damn, there’s nothing worse to be the one that was left behind. So I’m with Tyler on this.
I was hooked from the beginning. This is the part where my chest really grew tight. I really like Tyler. He was so hung up on what had happened. He kept on hoping that Alex would come back even after two years of no communication. Who can do that? Well apparently Tyler. If it’d have been me, I would have tried everything to forget Alex. It’s his loss!
While Alex, though some might say that it’s a brave decision, walking from someone you love, after he came back I can see his sincerity on wanting Tyler back even though I can’t really fully understand his decision two years ago. I was mad at him for what he did but throughout the book I forgave him.
Two men who really love one another and that after all those years they still hold each other’s heart. And I like that! I’m a firm believer of love conquers all.
I was surprised that I really enjoyed this after reading the epilogue. The premise is really good. That’s what made me want to read this book. Plus, the cover is beautifully done. But through the middle the plot kind of got messy for me. I was waiting for some big character development from the main characters. Like how this second chance in their relationship is different from the one Alex walked away from. What had changed?
But I loved this book still. It really made my heart pound. I loved the angst (though I wanted more. Especially in the scene where Alex came back. I expected more angst from Tyler) and emotions from the main characters. I did really feel it.
This book has great potential. I could have loved this more. But maybe you’ll enjoy this more than I did. And if you love second chances themed books, you might want to read this. Give this a go! I achingly enjoyed this one.
