BLURB: It’s a long way back to happily ever after.
Sean and Kyle have enjoyed six perfect years of what their friends called a “disgustingly happy” relationship. But what happens one sunny Tuesday morning in October might be more than even the most loving couple can survive.
When the bell rings that morning in chemistry teacher Sean Farnham’s first-period class, a terrifying sound fills the halls–gunshots. Without considering the consequences, Sean runs to tackle the shooter, sustaining a bullet wound to his leg. Despite his actions, he is unable to save the lives of the principal and two students.
Architect Kyle DeRusso hears about the shooting on the radio, and in the flash of an instant finds his life irrevocably altered. Everything–especially his heart–hangs suspended in a nightmare until he finds out Sean is alive. It doesn’t matter that Sean will be left with a permanent limp. Kyle’s just relieved the worst is over.
Or is it? Putting that day behind them isn’t as simple as it sounds. As Sean struggles to make something positive out of the tragedy, Kyle fights to save their relationship from the dangers of publicity–and Sean’s unwillingness to face how the crisis has changed him.
REVIEW:
Just when you thought that you finally found the harmonic rhythm of your life, life will throw some shit till it hit the fan.
Sean, a chemistry teacher and Kyle, an architect has been living together for six years. They are both happy with their relationship and content with their lives but nothing prepared them for the biggest storm they had to face when there was an accident in the school where Sean is working. From that point on the foundation of their relationship was put to test.
For me it is a bit tenuous for a book to start where the main characters are already in a relationship because it may affect how the readers can connect with their relationship and how they will love it. But Miss Mitchell wrote Sean and Kyle’s character well that at the start of the book you can really connect with them as couple. And I love this book. It has a quality to make you go on read and not put it down.
This is roller-coaster-of-emotion good with lovable main characters and sub-characters. I love Kyle’s most. He is the glue holding their relationship together while trying to have their old life back together. He is the epitome of patience and understanding with everything thrown at their way as a couple. But even when you are full of patience, at some point you are bound to snap. While Sean’s, I love him but as I continue reading I can’t help but feel frustrated. He became inconsiderate with what Kyle must be feeling and he don’t want to admit to a fault but through the end he redeemed himself.
This book is not all flowers and chocolates, it’s more of jealousy, anger, men fighting each other to the point that Kyle thought of this:
“Staying and settling for something less is worse than walking away.”
But at the end of the tunnel is love so hopeful and beautiful.
If you are looking for a book to be so emotionally invested from then you browsed the right book.

This was one of the first KA books I ever read – that was back in 2008 and she has been an auto-buy for me ever since. Great review – makes me want to re-read again. 🙂
