This is Rhys Ford and Sid Love has been gracious enough to offer me space here to rattle on in a series of guest blogs on the second of every month. Thank you all for having me here and please, pull up a chair and tug on your socks. Okay. I will tug on my socks because my toes are cold.
I am sitting here on the brink of 2014, watching Firefly because you know nothing like ringing in the New Year with Captain Mal Reynolds. Tasked with my first blog post here at Sid Love’s, I—master wordsmith—came up blank.
Totally blank.
Like the ultimate in performance anxiety. A dash of a naked man out into the snow only to discover the (wo)man of his dreams on the other side of the icy lake.
Now I could blame this on the cold medicines I’ve been taking. In fact, I will blame the lack of grey matter sloshing about to generate any kind of energy on my cold meds. It’s been an insidious sickness and I’ve been whining like a big baby about it for almost a week now.
So—the old year and the new year.
I’m ending the year with a book release in a new series. Fish and Ghosts—Wolf and Tristan—is the first in the Hellsinger series and really my first foray into the paranormal. I’ll foray more. Meander even. It’s a genre I really enjoy playing in and well, toss in two grumbling love-but-at-odds men and it gives me a great place to cook up some mischief.
Because as the man said, I aim to misbehave.
Alongside of a new Hellsinger novel, I’ve got a few things coming down the line for 2014. A lot of it is exciting, some of it scary—on my part because writing is always a scary thing, but most of all I hope it’s sexy fun.
When I started off writing, I did so with really one goal—besides world domination*. I wanted to write something fun. Now fun comes in a lot of different flavours but pretty much I wanted the reader to have fun. To maybe even during the serious bits, there is humour or something that touches the heart in a good way. I wanted people to smile. I wanted people to stumble across things they knew and laugh. Most of all, I wanted to provide some entertainment.
Because really, that’s kind of what this is—entertainment.
Should an author’s writing touch you as a reader? Yeah, and I hope I do that too. So that brings us to 2014 and what’s coming down the line.
Steampunk! There’s steampunk! A novella called Clockwork Tangerine will be out in February and that was a tear to write. Oh I wanted to get my hands dirty in that world so it was great to dip my fingers into its oil and come up with a romp.
Cole and Jae are back in March. Dirty Deeds will be out in March and as I’ve said elsewhere, this was a very different book to write because their world—their perspective—changed so much since the last book. But oh, while it was a challenge, it also was a great delve into Cole’s mind and coming out the other side was a revivification of sorts. Cole is definitely leaner and a bit wiser as he begins to unravel the mysteries he encounters.
Short on the hells of Dirty Deeds is the Devil’s Brew, a Miki and Kane novella. This is a fun piece but oh, so important to Miki’s growth as a person. He’s dealing with the realities of being part of a couple. It’s hard learning to be normal.
Tequila Mockingbird will be out in the Summer of 2014 and that’s the third in the Sinners series. This is Connor Morgan’s book as he falls for another man. And of course there’s murder. Isn’t there always murder? Because you know, I like murders.
The remaining projects of 2014 are a new Hellsinger, another side project—also paranormal—and finally Down and Dirty, Bobby and Ichiro’s story. I’m looking forward to bringing Bobby down to his knees. Really, isn’t that what we are all waiting to see? A cocky, arrogant man who disavows love only to find his ass and heart handed to him by a fierce and smart-mouthed younger man?
Yeah, good times.
That’s the New Year for me. I hope you all will be along for the ride and please, keep your arms and head inside of the vehicle at all times. Although you know, sometimes that’s no fun. So yeah, just peek before you do it. *grins*
So everyone go put on their pretty pink frilly dresses and go have some fun. Enjoy life. Have a good cup of tea or coffee—glass of wine—chocolate. Hell, have that ice cream. Just a bit because we’re on the brink of a new year!
And I wish you all a Good One at that.
* World domination really doesn’t have a lot going for it. See once you dominate the world, you’ve got to take care of it. I can’t even get all of my laundry done. There’s always some spare towel or bedsheet out there left unwashed. Who the hell can trust me to run a world when I can’t even get all the towels clean?
Awesome Post Rhys
No matter what you write you words Always hit the right note!

Thank you, love! Much love!
