AUTHOR: Sarah Masters
PUBLISHER: Totally Bound
LENGTH: 136 pages
BLURB: Oliver and Langham need to discover why over twenty gay men are abducting then killing other gay men in a weird ritual…
Oliver and Langham have the huge task of finding more than twenty men who have committed a murder—one where the victim is gay and has been used and abused in a sexual rite. Upon viewing the first victim, Oliver knows this is the first of many, and he’s dreading the bodies piling up.
Adam is sick of hiding. He’s secreted himself away since he was attacked by a violent gang and knows he needs to sort himself out before his boyfriend, Dane, gets tired of looking after his every need. After he’s exposed to another frightening episode in the mini-mart where Dane works, they both realise something’s got to give. They move away to Lower Repton, a small hamlet that recently hit the news due to the Sugar Strands case.
What should have been a shelter from the evil of city life becomes another nightmare. Adam is forced to face his fears when he and Dane find a dead body—and Adam starts hearing voices in his head. The two men meet Oliver and Langham, and together they are drawn into a web of deceit.
Reader Advisory: This book contains detailed reference to mutilation, rape and murder.
REVIEW: This installment is a little bit different than book 1, but I found I enjoyed it a bit more. Oliver and Langham are still working together to solve the mysteries behind the deaths Oliver is led to. They are now living together as well.
But we now meet another couple, Adam and Dane, who have some issues of their own they are dealing with. Much of the story is based around them, and while I found I missed more time with Oliver and Langham, these two were quite interesting. I definitely missed the banter and humor between Oliver and Langham in this segment, as that was one of the things I enjoyed in the first book, but I enjoyed Adam and Dane quite a bit here.
While the Sugar Strand case seemed to be solved in the last book, there are new cases that seem to be similarly connected. Adam and Dane are pulled into matters somewhat by chance, and then Adam starts hearing voices, though they are the voices of victims still alive, as opposed to Oliver’s deceased voices. They are again on a race for time to find the murders before another person falls victim, and each crime gets worse than the one before.
They end up sort of teaming up together to solve the mystery of the murdering, torturing, and quite creepy cult, and things get pretty intense.
If you enjoy more of a suspenseful crime mystery story with your romance, this is a unique and interesting series. I’m hoping there will be more to come for these guys and look forward to seeing more from Ms. Masters.
