Title: Needing a Little Christmas
Author: Silva Violet
Length: 14,500 words
Blurb: Discovering his boyfriend’s affair with a co-worker wrecks Eli’s holiday plans. With his parents on a cruise and his brother and sister out of town, he’s on his own. His mother insists he escape to her friend’s mountain cabin. Eli reluctantly agrees, but he takes off unprepared and ends up driving into the worst snowstorm the area has seen in years.
He survives the trip, but he’s stuck with no logs for the woodstove and little food. Fortunately, he gets the number for Mac’s Wood Delivery. Mac doesn’t mind riding to the rescue, and his deep, sultry voice has Eli eagerly anticipating the delivery. Is Mac the little bit of Christmas cheer Eli has been needing?
Review:
Eli is not having a good Christmas. His boyfriend’s cheating leaves him without holiday plans and his whole family is busy. He gives in to his mother’s demands that he take a holiday and ends up at a frozen cabin and miserable. One phone call changes all that.
This is a sweet story with a lot of heat. Eli is a nice guy who never seems to get a break until he meets Mac, his “knight in shining armor”.
They make an improbable instant connection on the phone and spent the next two days circling around each other before finally giving in to the sexual tension that has been building.
The story is short…almost too short and I would have liked to have seen a longer version of it, but if you’re looking for something short, sweet and hot this is it.
I have a little bit of a kink for the big teddy bear and the little guy who steals his heart and Mac comes across with just the right mix of confidence and good nature with a little shyness thrown in.
Eli is a thinker whose brain seems to melt in Mac’s presence and the two of them together made me smile.
A lovely little holiday story, but I had a hard time with the immediacy of the whole thing. But then again, I’m a little bit cynical.
