TITLE: Howl Sweet Howl
SERIES: Finnshifters #3
AUTHOR: Tia Fielding
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 124 Pages
BLURB: Life at the Jarvela farm hobbles on when the new year rolls in. Losing his wife and co-alpha in the storm of the decade emotionally paralyzed Sean, though he tries to cope and attempts to pick up the pieces with their children. Rider, another alpha, could give him the love and comfort he needs, but Sean is too depressed to recognize the possibility of having a male partner, and he goes into mental tailspin.
Rider makes the hard decision to leave for a while, and Sean turns his energy and sadness into working on the neighboring Metsala farm with the other members of their farm family. But Sean isn’t really getting better, and that won’t change until he can let his wolf out again. If he doesn’t, he might lose his sanity too.
REVIEW:
Tia Fielding’s Finnshifter series is a favorite of mine so I was really looking forward to reading this book. This genre is a particular favorite of mine and when it’s done well, I can get lost until the story is done.
This story is done well. The world the author has created comes to life on her pages and meeting up with the characters in these books is like running into old friends.
This story focuses on Sean, a wolf-shifter who lost Zoya, his mate and the mother of his children in a terrible accident and Rider, another wolf who had just begun a threesome relationship with the mated pair before Zoya was killed.
Sean is lost after the death of his co-alpha and is barely going through the motions of a normal life. If it wasn’t for Rider stepping in to help out with the kids, Sean knows he wouldn’t be making it.
Rider loves Sean and has for a long time. He’s not looking to replace Zoya, just to make his own place in Sean’s life.
Watching these two circle around each other is heartbreaking. They both need so much from the other but only Rider is willing to ask for it. Sean takes advantage of the feelings Rider has for him and it will make you ache for the pain Rider is feeling.
Rider takes care of his family but Sean’s attitude is hurting Rider badly and I was glad when he decided to take advantage of a chance to get away for a while.
I never doubted that they would work it out, but I did enjoy the journey Sean and Rider took to get there.
Mikail and Maxim are two of my favorite Tia Fielding characters and I love how they interact with Sean and Rider. They never judge either one, only support them and try to steer them in the right direction.
My only complaint was the lack of time the two main characters spent together. I would have like to have seen that part drawn out a little more, but I understand the need for them to be apart.
The story ends with a definite lead in for the next in the series and I can’t wait to see where Ms. Fielding takes us next. I’m hoping it will tell us the story of Anton and Nico, two of the younger shifters that live on the farm.
