I would like to first of all thank the lovely Dani for welcoming me and New York Cowboy today.

BLURB: It’s been six months since Vance Wolf buried his father. Driven to an early grave by the constant harassment of the new owner of the neighboring property, Andrew Blackwell. Now Vance’s cattle are disappearing faster than he can replace them and their cash flow has been wiped out by the new barn they had to build after the other one mysteriously caught fire. The local sheriff’s pockets are being lined by Blackwell, so Vance knows they’re on their own and is at his wits end. Then his mother suggests they open up the ranch to business types as a cowboy camp.
Adam Prentiss arrives at Wolf Creek Ranch on a team-building exercise with the four colleagues in his department. He is not the cowboy type, but has no choice as his boss, and father, has sent him to Wolf Creek with instructions to delve into the financial status of the ranch and report back to him. Falling for Vance Wolf had not been part of the plan, but the connection between them had been instant. But what was he more afraid of? Disobeying his boss or Vance finding out Adam’s father was in fact Andrew Blackwell and he’d been sent to help him appropriate Vance’s land by any means necessary?
*****
New York Cowboy is the prequel to Too Much Christmas Spirit, which was a little short I wrote the year before last about two cowboys who find an interesting and non-traditional use for Eggnog. A few readers approached me and said they’d love to know how Vance and Adam met and would I consider doing a prequel. I hadn’t thought about it, but once I did, the ideas wouldn’t let me be.
Other projects got in the way and it has taken a long time to finish it and other life events took precedent but, when my best friend’s husband, Keith, lost his brave battle with cancer at the beginning of September, I knew I had to finish it—for him. He wasn’t a cowboy, but he was braver than any of the real-life cowboys out there. He never gave up the fight, determined to beat this barbaric disease, right up to the end. The book is dedicated to Keith and I decided I wanted to donate 20% of the royalties of each copy sold in his memory.
The obvious choice would have been to donate straight to cancer research, but the hospices that provide palliative care to those with life limiting illnesses also rely on donations to keep them going. So I decided to donate that 20% to The Friends of Roxburghe House, http://www.friendsofroxburghehouse.co.uk/ the hospice where Keith spent some of his remaining time, and the staff and volunteers who cared so brilliantly for him while he was there—and continue to care for those who still wage their battles with this barbaric disease. They also have a Just Giving page where I will be posting the donations each month in Keith’s honour at https://www.justgiving.com/frhg/.
I’ll be keeping everyone posted on how much money we are raising and thank anyone in advance who buys a copy of the book 🙂
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I live in a small seaside town just outside London, on the South Coast of England that boasts the longest pier in the world; where I am ordered around by two precocious children and a dog who thinks she’s the boss of me.
I’ve been writing seriously for three years now and love giving voice to the characters warring to be heard in my head, and am currently petitioning for more hours in the day, because I never seem to have enough of them.
I like nothing more than bringing together two people in interesting and sometimes bizarre ways, and hope that the readers enjoy the characters’ journey as much as they and I do.

Lisa, those were such beautiful words about Keith, and it’s such a lovely thing you’re doing with the donations. Anyone who has ever had to put someone in hospice knows what an amazing function it serves, and how much of a difference it makes when you have a quality facility with the right people. It sounds like Roxburghe House was just such a place. Before I read about Keith, I was already interested in reading New York Cowboy, but now to think a purchase will go to help others makes me want to that much more. Thank you for the chance to win it, but win or not, I’m looking forward to reading it.

I always like to find out how an author will resolve a character’s mistrust after his partner has betrayed him with ulterior motives. I think it would be almost impossible to forgive such behavior. How could the person then trust his partner in the future?
Count me in please 🙂
