SERIES: Ride ‘Em #4
AUTHOR: J.P. Bowie
LENGTH: 84 pages
BLURB: This time Royce and Parker are worried that their friend Brett Taylor has made a big, big mistake in hiring a new man to help run Hope Ranch. Joel Harper, the local sheriff, is especially concerned as he’s been notified by the authorities that the man has only recently been released from Wyoming State Penitentiary.
Josh Kenyon has spent eight years behind bars for a crime he says he didn’t commit, and that he was framed for. Brett believes him, and when the feelings they have for one another become much more than mere attraction, he is determined to find someone who can prove Josh’s innocence.
But his good intentions cause unforeseen chaos when a man from Josh’s past arrives with only one thing in mind—silencing Josh forever.
REVIEW:
Let’s first start with the fact that when this book caught my eye and I wanted to read it. I had no clue it was from a series. After reading it I found that it could be read as a stand alone as there is just some minor references to the characters from the first three stories.
But I didn’t know that so decided to read the first three (short) stories before reading this one and wow was I glad that I did! What a wonderful collection of hot cowboy/ranch related stories! My kindle is still burning of the hotness that touched my screen.
In the first three stories you get introduced to different characters (Royce , Parker, Charlie, Jed, Joel and Jason) and they all make an appearance in this new story, being friends with Brett, one of the main characters.
As I mentioned above you can read this story as a standalone. The characters are in this part but they are friends and play that role . Personally I like it when characters from previous stories appear in the new story but it is also a risk an author takes, as it means a reference to those previous stories readers might not have read.
Go read them though! Whether you’re are reading this first or getting acquainted with the author because of the blurb of this story like I did, they are worth it .
Back to Journey of Hope. We get introduced to main characters Brett and Josh. As the blurb says, Josh is an ex-con who finds a place at Hope Ranch, the home of Brett.
From the moment the two main characters are introduced the sparks are flying. There is instant attraction and they act on it quickly. Maybe too quickly if I have one small critique. The author has a way of bringing his main characters together in a quick and very powerful way. I don’t feel it as disturbing but it could take a bit more time for them to get sexually involved.
The connection between both men is explosive and before either man knows they are both head over heals for each other.
It is nice and sexy to read their relationship forming and to see the protectiveness of the characters of the former 3 stories.
The little bit of drama that the author throws in nearing the end of this book is a nice addition without extending it too long or drawing out the story. It causes a bit of tension and added emotion and makes the story feel more as a complete read.
For me a very pleasurable read and I hope there will be more Ride ’Em stories coming!
