Guest Post & GIVEAWAY: Garrett Leigh

Enduring Love

Writing Slide (Roads #1) was one of the most intense experiences of my life. Long days at the computer, and even longer nights trying to sleep with Pete shouting in my head,  pleading with me to give Ash another chance at life. Some folk reckon writing a book is just making shit up, but they don’t know the half of it. The stories might not be my own, but I’m part of every one of them.

Ash is a special person. I hold that broken young man real close to my heart, but what hurt most as this heartbreaking book came together was Pete’s bone deep love for him. Ash broke down. He fell to pieces in his arms, so far gone he didn’t know Pete…didn’t knowhimself, but Pete never gave up. Never walked away when all that remained of Ash was the shell of a bloody, tortured kid.

Pete’s commitment to Ash made me weep, and as it deepened and manifested itself as the soul of this story, it taught me a lot about myself, and my own relationships.Loving someone is far more than saying the words, and Pete and Ash taught me that words mean little when the center of your world needs you most.

Loving someone is like a hurricane and being stuck in slow motion all rolled into one.

Loving someone is everything you are, for as long as you have it.

Don’t look back. Don’t you ever look back…

Shy tattoo artist Ash has a troubled past. Years of neglect, drug abuse, and life on the streets have taken their toll, and sometimes it seems the deep, unspoken bond with his lover is the only balm for wounds he doesn’t quite understand.

Chicago paramedic Pete is warmth, love, and strength—things Ash never knew he could have, and never even knew he wanted until Pete showed him. But fate is a cruel, cruel mistress, and when nightmares collide with the present, their tentatively built world comes crashing down.

Traumatic events in Pete’s work life distance him from home, and he doesn’t realize until it’s too late that Ash has slipped away. Betrayal, secrets, and lies unfold, and when a devastating coincidence takes hold, Pete must fight with all he has to save the love of his life.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Garrett Leigh is a British writer and indie cover artist with a special interest in using the arts as catharsis in mental illness. Currently writing and designing for Dreamspinner Press, Loose ID and Extasy Books, she has a passion for darkly troubled heroes, tattoos and tales of enduring true love…not necessarily in that order.

Garrett is a lazy person at heart. She enjoys terrorising her husband and generally wasting as much time as possible.

If there were a degree in doing sweet FA, perhaps she’d have stayed at school a little while longer…

Beautiful cover; actually made my mouth water. I’m very visual, and I love to read stories by and about visual people! I like the pairing of a paramedic and a tattoo artist. Very intriguing blurb, can’t wait!!

  2. Well, didn’t this just grab me by the throat and not let go. What you describe in your first sentences is so much like the experiences I have with my own writing, my own characters that I just can’t let this one go. Don’t worry about putting me in a draw because I can’t possibly wait to see if I win. I had to go get it and I will be reading as soon as I stop typing 🙂

Well, what to say … I haven’t read the book yet so I can’t say anything witty about it – which is why it would be wonderful to get a copy of it :). The blurb sounds like it’s going to be an intense read, but I hope there still a happy ending down the road for Ash and Pete 🙂

I’ve read things about the Roads books (Slide and Marked) that just intrigue me. I’m drawn to the brokenness and the healing. Thank you for the chance to win Slide.

This would be a good opportunity to read work from a new for me author and this book sounds way beyond angsty. I love books that have pain, agony, then end as happily as they can. This book sounds like it does that in spades.
