TITLE: An Intoxicating Crush (Book #3)
SERIES: Delectable
AUTHOR: E. M. Lynley
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 234 pages
BLURB: Simon Ford’s success is hard-won. He grew up in Napa and resents the rich people who have moved into the valley, changing the culture by opening boutique wineries and pricing the locals out of the market.
Austin Kelvin runs an award-winning winery his father started after making a fortune on Wall Street. He lives the posh lifestyle Simon resents but secretly longs to attain. However, Austin’s world isn’t as luxurious and privileged as it seems: he didn’t inherit his father’s business savvy, and his winery is going under.
When Simon’s boss sends him to covertly scope out Kelvin Cellars for a possible takeover bid, Simon sees it as a step toward attaining his financial dreams. Until he falls hard for Austin. The feeling is mutual, but when Austin learns the real reason for Simon’s initial interest, he suspects Simon’s seduction is merely a means to procure the winery at a bargain price. If there’s any hope of winning Austin’s heart, Simon will have to risk it all to prove Austin is more than just an intoxicating crush.
REVIEW:
First thing I have to admit is that I had a hard time to get into this story. Where I liked the first delectable novella (Brand New Flavor) and I simply adored the second novel (Lighting the Way Home – co written with Shira Anthony), for some reason, this one didn’t get to me.
It could be because I have no interest at all of grapes and vineyards but I really had a hard time committing myself to reading this novel. I couldn’t get myself to feel a connection for the main characters Simon and Austin and it took me at least half the book to even get some connection with either of them.
That being said, if you like a vineyard stories or simple novels with some slight angst, you will enjoy this story. The hotness between them is visual and very well written and when the drama at the end takes place, you will get into feeling their devastating moments and the desperation.
The story centres around vineyard owner Austin and Simon who is an employee at a company who wants to take over Austin’s vineyard. Being sent out to scout, out the place, Simon feels an immediate attraction to the owner Austin and that proves to be mutual. Falling head over heels into a very intense sexual relationship we witness their feelings develop and turning slowly into more.
When Simon’s boss goes behind his back and makes an offer on the vineyard, all seems to crash around both Simon and Austin. It takes a lot of work commitment and “love” for Simon to try to win Austin back and Austin needs to see that asking and accepting help isn’t a weakness but can also be a strength even when it is offered from family. The end is fascinating and well written.
People who like a contemporary novel with a little twinge of angst and who enjoy the techniques and specifics of grapes, wine and vineyard they will get a tread with this story.
For me, I settle on 3 stars.
