TITLE: Cowboy and Indian (FEVER Anthology)
AUTHOR: Rob Rosen
PUBLISHER: Torquere Press
LENGTH: 20 pages
BLURB: Jed is on his way from Tombstone to the rodeo just outside of Tucson for a chance at the fifty dollar bronco bucking prize. Halfway there he encounters a lone Apache warrior, Taza. The two form an instant bond, so Taza decides to accompany Jed on his journey and also try for the prize. Except, as they soon find out, Indians can’t normally ride in a rodeo. Then again, at this particular rodeo, normal is thrown right on out the window. And the fifty dollars isn’t the only reward in store for these two lovers, who, when it comes to cowboys and Indians, are far from normal themselves.
REVIEW:
Written for the Fever Anthology comes this short – and I can say – a sexy story.
We meet the cowboy from the title in the beginning of the story finding out he is going to travel to a rodeo on the way. He meets the Indian and the Cowboy is introduced as Jed and the Indian is Taza. And they meet in quite an explosive way on all accounts but there is also an instant connection between them.
The writer takes us with him in the rows of passion we can read in the pages after the main characters meet. The connection I spoke of before is recognizable into the story and in the passion the writer describes, a quick mention of a serious subject as discrimination is perfectly put in and gives the story a serious undertone – all of it flowing easily for a reader.
They both enter the competition and a surprise is there at the end of the story – an unexpected offer, which makes for a wonderful HEA.
For me, it was a quick, sexy read, that didn’t need much concentration or shock – which was easy to read and made for an enjoyable hour (or, less) of reading time.
So what to rate a story like this? It is, I think, also what you want to find in a story. It was nice, it was sexy, it was easy to read, there was a little plot but still I felt there was something missing but not something I can pinpoint. I enjoyed reading it but it doesn’t stick in your head so to speak. Summing that up, I cannot find any real critic since it happens to be so short and simple.
For me, it comes down to a good 3.5 star rating.
