REVIEW:
Let me start with the fact that these series is a series you either like or don’t like; there are very diverse opinions on this. Me – I happen to like them. It feels like a comfortable, easy read that has a bit of drama but is mainly focussed on love.
The first three instalments in the series left me anxious for more and also made me curious as each of the three main characters (the three friends from the books – Finn, Daniel and Kiernan) were now paired up with a partner (Max, Luke and Jason). That had me very interested and curious to see how this series would continue seeing the many interesting characters that live in Ellery.
In this fourth book we meet Liam – a doctor working at the town clinic and we also find Mitch – former bad boy, drunk and trouble maker. Having lived in Ellery, when he was younger he returns to share ownership of Ellery Cabins with Daniel and his mum Brenda. Mitch returns after changing his life drastically along with his twelve year old niece. Mitch takes care of Bobbie while Annabelle (his sister) is in rehab.
Despite Liam’s first hesitance towards Mitch and his own past, there is an instant attraction between the two guys and Mitch finds himself accepted by the gay friendly community of Ellery and the couple that lives there.
Building a place for himself and Bobbie and his sister for when she comes out of rehab builds a solid relationship between all the guys. We see the relationship between Liam and Mitch easily evolving into more than just friends and you find situations where Mitch and Bobbie are making a life in Ellery settling in their new house and life in general.
Annabelle is joining them in their home when she comes out of rehab and the parents – not totally surprising – make objection about Bobbie living with both Annabelle and Mitch.
So what to say about the story? It reads good and flows nicely but it is kind of shallow…? I didn’t really feel a connection with the characters whereas in the other stories I did. Liam and Mitch easily get together and there is not really a big adventure or sparkling way there. There are no surprises or anything. It is hard to sum up what I think about this story. Disappointed, if I am honest, I guess.
Did I expect too much? Was I too excited upfront?
I love the characters, especially the fact that you see all of them coming back in this story. The companionship between them is great! The sex is hot, as always and the story is easily read.
That being said this story needs to be read in order of the series as too many things wouldn’t make sense to read it as a stand alone.
To sum up, I’ll give this a rating of three stars mostly because of the easy read and the wonderful characters and because I still really like the men (and women) of Ellery mountain.
