Another masterpiece, ladies and gentlemen!
Paul Stewart, a reporter from The Journal is asked to do an interview of Matthew Trammell – a successful CEO of an organisation supporting the people with HIV/AIDS – a.k.a. Auntie Social – the most famous drag queen in Atlanta. With rumors heard about Auntie Social’s sarcasm and toughness, Paul gets unusually anxious.
However, the interview takes an interesting turn when Matthew decides to embark on his journey that led him where he was now. An episode in his life that changed him forever. And the story begins with a name coming up very often – Patrick.
Let’s Hear It For The Boy is a novella, very cleverly written by Mr. Webb. The concept is fresh and the characters are believable. Matthew, as he tells the story, comes off as a person whom I have known for a long time. It is a tale that grips on your emotions and takes it on a roller coaster ride.
To be honest, I never thought I’d like this book so much, especially since I have never read about drag queens. And I thought it was going to be all about that. But I was proved totally wrong. It isn’t about Auntie Social, the drag queen (partly, it is I guess) but it is more about Matthew and his past. The past that has defined his present. So, yeah, I love it when I am proved wrong.
The writing is superb, like I already mentioned. Webb is a master-storyteller. The character of Matthew is the one I loved a lot – anyone would, considering we get to be in his mind. He has suffered a lot; hurt as he was, I could only imagine how much it would have taken out of him to move on. I am glad for the friend he had during the rough times, but I was more ecstatic to read the end of the story. It was perfect – exactly how a good book like this should have concluded.
This story deserves to be read at least once. Because I promise you, once you read it, it will remain in your heart forever!
