Sue Brown’s “Summer’s Dawn” is a tale of two young adults – Joel Summers and Seth Dawn, who are attracted to each other. Seth has known the hot jock for years and has admired him from afar; so once when Seth catches Joel staring at him it of course leaves him pleasantly surprised. That electrifying connection between them was built up three years from the present day and it continues. So what really stops them from being together?
The story takes you through time leaps from ‘three years ago’, then two, then one and lastly the present day scenario and the author has handled that remarkably well. She packs this story in a short piece of mere twenty three pages and yet leaves such a significant impact on you. I personally felt my heart breaking or feeling overjoyed as per the character’s emotions. The story does that to you.
No wonder this story is the bestseller on Amazon!
The character of Joel Summers actually took me by surprise. Even though I was reading him through Joel’s eyes, my feelings went on a bumpy when it came to Joel. His personality initially put that charm on me, though at a later point, he pissed me off. However as the end drew near, I wanted to just go and hug him. So, yes, Joel did impress me a lot for his daring move and the sane decision that he had made.
Secondary characters like Ryan and Millie stood out, too, and they made me realize how important it is to have true friends in your life.
What’s not hot? Well, the story is based on a very cliché matter, but I guess the writing makes it worth reading. The ending also came on too quickly, which almost ruined the value of this story. However, since it was a happy ending, it didn’t much bother me.
My opinion? Everyone definitely needs to read this at least once! It is a very short and sweet story that would be loved by most people. So, go and get yourself a copy of it.
