Last week I travelled to the Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains is an area just outside of Sydney, about an hour and a half drive away. It’s a beautiful landscape – gorgeous forested mountains, towering cliffs of red and yellow stone, and waterfalls. It’s a amazing place to visit with lookouts and bushwalks, even in the cold of winter. The landscape was eerily misty but still spectacular. There are lovely little towns dotted along the way full of cafes and charming shops selling antiques and knickknacks.
We stayed in a renovated hotel that had its beginning as a spa resort back in 1904. It has magnificent views over the valley below and the escarpment. The sunsets are amazing! The best part of our trip was showing the special place to my daughter and her boyfriend. He had only briefly driven through the mountains and not spent any time there so it was great to show him the beauty of the mountains.
One of the best things about travelling in winter is being able to lounge about in front of the fire with a glass of red wine and a good book. I don’t know about you, but in summer I feel more like I should be about and about, not holed up indoors. So winter is perfect for a book worm like me! And I wasn’t the only one. There were others dotted around the communal lounge area. Some people were simply gazing at the view through the huge glass windows, but a lot of people had a book, even if they were just nursing it for the moment. I also noticed that, unlike me, most people had paperbacks, not a Kindle.
Anyway, I got thinking how lucky I was to be warm and snug and in a beautiful place, to see and experience the wonders of the Blue Mountains in person. But it also got me thinking of all the wonderful places I’ve been lucky enough to visit through the eyes of another author. Books have taken me to places all over the world, and also allowed me to visit completely different times in history.
I’d love to know your favourite place for a quick weekend away and the place you love visiting the most in your book world. Perhaps I’ll grab that book and visit too.
Happy reading,
Nic ❤
Do you want to take a virtual visit to Australia? Perhaps you’d like my Rustic series. It will take you to Tamworth and Armidale in country NSW, a quick visit to Sydney, and to Melbourne.
The journey starts with Rustic Melody. All the books are available on Amazon and included with a Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Can a boy from the country and a guy from the city ever make it work?
Adam Chambers has never seen eye-to-eye with his father and is reluctant to take over the family’s property-development company. To clear his head and work out what he wants to do with the rest of his life, Adam leaves his responsibilities in the city and heads out to see the country.
He isn’t much closer to deciding what to do with his life when he arrives at one of Australia’s largest events, the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and meets Joey Callaway.
Since Joey’s father’s tragic death left Joey the family’s debt-ridden pub, Joey has struggled, desperate to turn the business around and give his mum the life she deserves. A break away from the pressures of running the pub is just what he needs, and a hook-up with Adam is the perfect way to forget about his troubles.
The one-night stand might just be an opening act. If Adam and Joey can follow the music in their hearts, perhaps they can heal each other and create a melody that will last a lifetime.
