Monthly Author Post – Anne Barwell – Time Flies

I can’t believe it’s nearly half way through 2018 already. May has been a busy month, but RL has taken over from writing, and I’m still trying to figure out how to wrestle it back. I’m open to ideas, and would love to know how other authors balance writing and working full time in a busy day job. I get home from work and all I have energy for is putting up a couple of blog posts and that’s it. In saying that though, I do get home between 9 and 9.30pm so it’s a bit late to be starting too much.

I usually get up a bit earlier than I have been, though, and write before work, but lately that’s been taken up with other things that need doing.

But, at least chapter one of Forgotten in Fire is finished, and chapter two is off to a good start, if only I could conjure up time to write it. I suspect I’ll be winging my way to 18th Century Scotland soon too as my co-writer for The Harp and the Sea, Lou Sylvre, has been sending me interesting pieces of research this week as she’s writing her part of the story.

In August I’m going to my very first RWNZ conference in Auckland. I’m looking forward to being able to hang out with other authors, plus listen to interesting key note speakers. As an aside one of those speakers will be Damon Suede so especially excited about meeting another Dreamspinner author. Being in New Zealand I often feel isolated from other writers, although our online NZ Rainbow Writers FB group has taken off fabulously well over the past few months, and I love interacting with them, and supporting each other’s weekly goals. I’m hoping to meet some of them in Auckland and listen to the panel on Writing Rainbow Romance in the 21st Century.

As I had leave for the first weekend of the month because of an orchestra concert, I was able to attend the local chapter meeting of RWNZ. I work Saturdays so it’s something I rarely get to go to. Needless to say I loved the experience, and meet a lot of lovely friendly people whom I’m looking forward to catching up again with in Auckland.

Not sure I’ll have the opportunity to attend another meeting before then as the next concert isn’t until the week before the conference and all my leave is tied up until about September. We’re starting rehearsals for that concert this week. The theme is English Country Gardens, so very different from the Spanish theme of the last performance.

I’ve been asked—as have other authors with the same publisher—what other authors would be readalikes for my books. Working in a library, this is something I do all the time in regard to other authors, but when it comes to my own I’m drawing a blank. I tend to write what I want to read, and often because I can’t find it, that being very definitely the case when I started writing my WWII Echoes Rising series.

I’ve asked this question before on other media platforms and offered an audible code for my Dreamspun Desire Prelude to Love in way of thanks. I still have one code to give away so please comment on this post to be in to win. Thank you!

Readers have the same problem! Especially if you’re reading ARC’s and/or a Beta reader. I just look forward when my ‘better half’ is on the golf course!

We need a TARDIS or a time turner! I don’t have to worry about a ‘better half’ but work gets in the way of everything else I want to get done. I like paying bills though so it’s a necessary evil.

That’s a difficult question, Anne. Maybe some Kaje Harper, Amy Lane or R Cooper… 😉
