BLURB:
What do you do when your past comes knocking?
Six hundred and ninety-five days. That’s how long it’s been since Jude’s fiancé broke off their engagement. With the help of his brother and his all-encompassing love for music, Jude glued the broken pieces of his heart back together, but when his ex shows up on his doorstep late one evening, Jude fears it will fall apart again.
Two years ago, Vincent made a terrible mistake. He left the love of his life for stupid, ill-advised reasons. It took a traumatic event to bring what was truly important in his life into focus. Older and wiser, he’s now ready to do whatever it takes to win Jude back.
Their chemistry is as explosive as ever, but will they be able to work through the real issues? Can trust once broken be rebuilt?
REVIEW:
While I don’t generally read a ton of contemporary stories, when I saw the blurb for this one I knew I had to give it a chance. Still not completely over the loss of a relationship that meant everything to him, Jude has still managed to (mostly) move on and is fairly content with his life as it is now. So what if he hasn’t really had a relationship in the two years since he parted ways with his ex, dating isn’t everything, right? When Vincent shows up completely out of the blue and declares that he made a mistake and that he still loves Jude, Jude is understandably thrown for a loop; underneath all the heartache, however, he still loves the man that left him unexpectedly and despite his misgivings, Jude decides to give Vincent another chance.
I’m a complete sucker for second chance stories, I admit it. Told from Jude’s point of view, you’re privy to the inner workings of his mind while he tries to sort out what happened between him and Vincent two years ago while also trying to come to grips with what’s going on between them now. While a bit more introspective than I had been expecting, I enjoyed the in depth glimpse you get of Jude and his life as well as the realizations he makes along the way. The story itself was fairly laid back and despite its shorter length, made me feel as though I was reading something quite a bit longer. There was a lot packed into this one without things feeling rushed or shorted in some way, which was nice.
Overall I found this to be a nice relaxing read that gave me some feels and a happy ending. If you enjoy second chance stories that are light on the drama, you might want to look into this one.
