Monthly Author Post – Anne Barwell – Taking a Cup o’Kindness

As this is my last post for 2017 and the end of year is fast approaching it seemed appropriate to use part of the lyrics from ‘Auld Lang Syne’ as its title.

This is also the end of my first year as a blogger at Love Bytes, and I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to interact, and wax lyrical about subjects dear to my heart with all of you. Thank you, Dani, for inviting me, and I’m looking forward to writing more posts in the coming year.

2017 has been a very busy year, and looking back I kind of wonder how I managed to get through it. I had three books published this year, with book four releasing in the New Year. Two of those are contemporary romances set in New Zealand—Sunset at Pencarrow (co-written with Lou Sylvre), and Prelude to Love. One Word is a mystery detective with a touch of fantasy and Comes a Horseman is an historical set in WWII. It felt good, and a little sad, to finally my WWII series as it’s been a part of my writing life for well over a decade, so I was really rapted when it was 3rd-tie runner up for Best Gay Historical Romance and a finalist for Best Gay Book in this year’s Rainbow Awards.

The thing with having four books out in seven months is that once I’d submitted the last one my life turned into an endless round of edits and promo. I was getting twitchy with the lack of actual writing, so it was a relief to having get back into that late last month. One more blog tour to go, and I can focus on writing for a while instead of trying to juggle several books in various stages of their publications journey at once.

This year has been eventful in other ways too. I have a new grandson, but on the flip side my mother has been in hospital several times which is a constant concern. I also played in four orchestra concerts, and did my annual pilgrimage to Armeggedon which is New Zealand’s annual pulp expo con.

I’d like to thank everyone who supported me this year both online, in RL, and both. You’re too many to name, but you know who you are. Love you heaps.

I’ll leave you with a sneak look at my new year’s release Prelude to Love. Catch you on the flip side.

Music speaks directly to the heart.

Two very different men face turning points in their lives after the collapse of long-term relationships….

Joel is a music teacher who knows it’s time to forget his ex and move on, while Marcus runs a lawn-mowing business and has come to Wellington to escape the reminders of a recent breakup. Although they’re opposites, when Joel and Marcus connect, their romance has the potential to hit all the right notes.

Too bad neither of them feels ready for new love.

With family and friends in common, dating is risky—things could get messy if it doesn’t work out. The sweet song of possibility draws them to each other, though, and they share a kiss following a Chopin prelude. But it will take some practice and perseverance to find their perfect harmony….
