BLURB:
Big Roy is a hard-rock miner with a not-so-secret love for the theater, so when he hears a new troupe of actors are coming to the Telluride Opera House to put on a Shakespeare play, he saddles his mule and makes the trek into town to see it. The play doesn’t disappoint, but the beautiful lead actor, Edward Clancy, certainly does. Clancy is rude and arrogant, and Roy figures he’d never have a chance with such a man.
He’s wrong, because Clancy needs some entertainment himself, being stuck in a hellish mining town for the long, snowy winter. Come spring, though, Clancy knows he’s going to want to move on, and he thinks Roy will be easy to forget. Then tragedy hits, and Clancy has to rethink his entire life. Can these two strike gold?
REVIEW:
Roy and Clancy are the definition of opposites attract.
Clancy is a big fan of the finer things in life, including his men, but when he finds himself wintering in a two-bit town, he finds that beggars can’t always be choosers. Besides, there’s something intriguing about Big Roy.
Big Roy know’s he’s not the best looking guy in town, but he’s friendly and considerate and absolutely adores the theater. He knows there’s nothing about him that would interest a fancy man like Clancy, but it doesn’t stop him from dreaming about him. Besides, Clancy is a bit of an arrogant ass.
I liked this story. It’s a little sweet and a little sassy with some angst thrown in. Some of the angst is based on miscommunication but there also some plain old “life is throwing me a curve ball” kind of situation too.
Watching these two move closer together made me smile. It’s the kind of story you find in a Harlequin or Mills and Boon. There’s no doubt about where the story is going, but it’s sure a fun ride to get there.
Clancy made me what to smack him in the back of the head, while Big Roy just left me wanting to hug him. The dialogue is entertaining and there’s a lot of fun moments mixed in with the strife of life for gay men in the old west.
And the sex? It’s damn good. There’s not too much for the kind of story that it is but it definitely will warm you up a little as you read it.
I’m a big fan of Julia Talbot’s and she hasn’t let me down with this story in the least. It’s the kind of story that will keep you reading right through the afternoon as you relax and read and have a cup of tea (or wine, whatever makes you happy).
