History isn’t always what it seems . . .
With the battle of Egypt behind them, Alec and Cronin are enjoying the thrill of new love. Though fate doesn’t wait long before throwing them back into the world of weird.
They know Alec’s blood is special, though its true purpose still eludes them. And given Alec’s inability to be changed into a vampire, Cronin is free to drink from him at will. But the ramifications of drinking such powerful blood starts a ripple effect.
With the help of Jorge, a disturbing vampire-child with the gift of foresight, Alec and Cronin face a new kind of war. This time their investigations lead them to the borders of China and Mongolia—but it’s not what lies in the pits beneath that worries Alec.
It’s the creator behind it all.
In the underground depths of China, amidst a war with the Terracotta Army, they will find out just what the Key is, and what Alec means to the vampire world.
Ok so I totally think this story should only ever be listened to or seen as a movie. I cannot imagine reading this for myself on the page and getting near as much enjoyment out of the tension and the visuals.
This world is fantastic and vivid and just so imaginative. Taking history and reworking it into vampire lore was just so creative. I mean, for me it was two fold. I had to learn the original history first and then I had to figure out all the ways the author made it her own. It was just so much fun for my analytical brain!
And OMG the sexual tension was OFF THE CHARTS. And the narrator nailed it in his reading. And it was pertinent to the story so I never felt like it was just in there for the sake of having some hot sex to enjoy. It really worked for me in the plot as well as in the developing relationship between these fated mates.
The plot and mystery was so compelling yet again. I was on pins and needles needing to know who was what and what was why and OMG it was just so tense. I loved it. I know this review is a mess but I can’t fangirl hard enough over this series because it hit all my favorite parts about reading paranormals and fantasies.
I highly recommend this series. It is one I will revisit over and over and the audio only serves to enhance the story as a whole. I cannot wait for the final installment to be released in audio! I NEED to know what will happen next.
Another fabulous narration by Joel Leslie. I have said it before and I will say it again, he is perfect for paranormal narrations! His accents were wonderful and he really brought out the action, adventure, and emotion. This was a great performance and I highly recommend it.
