I’ve only listened to one audio book and enjoyed it. That was when I drove a lot.

Since I’m at home more I prefer reading, since I can read quickly and project the voice I want each character to have. Much like when the cover doesn’t show the characters and I have to just imagine them from the description in the story.

I loved hearing about the process though!

You’re right, it is an added dimension – the audio can enhance the story, but it also comes between the words and our interpretation of them, by forcing cadence and pitch and emphasis. It could be a little hard to listen to a familiar favorite, because not even the most in-tune narrator will stress everything in the exact way I heard it in my head. But when I listened to the audio for Into Deep Waters, the emotions also hit me differently, and in some ways deeper, coming from an unexpected place. So something was also added. It’s a cool thing to be part of doing. I’m glad you found the discussion interesting.

I view reading and listening as two completely different activities. I actually enjoy listening to audios of books that I’ve already read, because I love to see the nuances the narrators can inbue the characters with. I see releasing an audiobook is a lot of work, but I think it is worth it, because the experience of listening to a book you love is so enjoyable, at least for me, most of the times.
I’m looking forward to listening to your books, Kaje! 😉

Thank you – that’s interesting. I’m finding some people say they mostly listen to books they already enjoy in ebook. That’s cool to know (and makes the Amazon whispersync a more logical choice, ending up with both versions.) I hope you’ll enjoy it.
