Grant Baines runs a specialty-tour company with his sister, Andie. The tour part is ushering frat boys around the Gulf of Mexico in his charter yacht. The specialty is that he’s an ex-military psychologist who does favors for the government. When Grant is asked to spend a week evaluating traumatized FBI advisor Matty Sawyer, he agrees, thinking it will be just another babysitting assignment.
Grant is more relaxed in a bondage playroom than he is going on a date, so he’s amazed at how strongly he’s attracted to the damaged but brilliant man who arrives in his town. Grant’s job is to assess Matty’s stability to return to the FBI after Jaeger Koning— Matty’s former lover— is charged with multiple assassinations.
Knowing Matty’s past poses a danger to his family, Grant is determined to keep his distance, until Matty reveals a submissive side that Grant finds impossible to resist.
REVIEW:
Kirby Crow is a new author to me and our first ride together was a great success. Meridian is a complete story even though it’s the first book in the Mirror series with Matty and Grant getting their very hard earned happy ending. Although the threat to Matty and by association Grant was always obvious and inevitable their journey together was a lot of fun, full of very intimate moments and still held a few surprises.
Matty is a real conundrum – his panic attacks, nightmares and fear when looking back at his past make him appear frail when in reality nothing could be further from the truth. An experienced FBI profiler who was seemingly left for dead by his ex-boyfriend who turned out to be quite a prolific mass murderer. Matty has been sent to see a therapist with a difference as a last chance option to get through his terror and guilt enabling him to return to work.
Grant runs a boat touring outfit with his sister which includes doing the odd job for the government, under the radar of course, in his role as a military psychologist. Grant wasnt easy to work out in the beginning. A much sought after Dom in the local scene but one that never goes back to a sub for a repeat performance – he’s had his fingers burnt with relationships and nothing will change his mind on that one – until Matty literally falls into his arms and then all bets are off.
Analysing Matty is quickly forgotten as neither man can keep their hands off the other from the start. On paper their desires and needs match up well but even with the insta-lust they do make a small effort to keep it professional. When that fails, and it fails very quickly, their relationship moves forward swiftly and the author really made me feel the passion between the two of them.
I could have lived without spending so much time with Grant’s sister – it occasionally felt like her dramas, of which there were many, held up the story. The bad guy in this story really is a bad guy and he had a point to prove towards the end and as he still free and left behind subtle threats when he left you can bet your life we will meet him again in book 2.
