Hi everyone! Thanks for joining me on this leg of my tour. Today I have a top 5 list from Myles’s pov. He’s a professional surfer, or at least he was in his previous life, so here’s a run down of his favorite places to surf, all of which happen to be on my list of places to see before I die, but for now, I’ll settle for living vicariously through him.
Myles Taylor’s Top 5 Places to Surf:
- Pipeline, HI This might be the most iconic surf spot on the planet and Myles’s favorite. Hawaii is an incredible place to visit thanks to its world-renowned beaches and cultural uniqueness. It’s at the top of every surfer’s bucket list, but his reasons for loving it are a little more personal. He won his first professional surf competition at Pipeline, but more importantly, it was the last competition he and his uncle Joe shared before Joe succumbed to cancer. While the memories may be bittersweet, every time he goes back to surf the killer waves of Pipeline, he closes his eyes and imagines Joe’s still with him.
- Playa Grande, Costa RicaIf you’re outside surfing circles, you might not think of Costa Rica as a world class surfing destination, but that’s one reason Myles loves it. Costa Rica is absolutely beautiful and somewhat off the beaten path. It’s teeming with wildlife thanks to the Costa Rican rainforest and is the nesting ground for a huge population of leatherback sea turtles. Anytime he goes, he makes sure to take a few days to wander through its natural beauties and soak up all that Costa Rica has to offer after he’s had his fill of surfing.
- Zuma Beach, Malibu, CAThis is an iconic beach in California, and maybe that’s why he loves it so much. The first competition of his career took place at Zuma. He lost horribly, coming in second to last, but he also made some amazing new friends.
- Supertubes, Jeffrey’s Bay, South AfricaMyles loves this place for two very important reasons: the awesome name, which the waves absolutely live up to, and the fact he can go from surfing to swimming with great white sharks in the span of half an hour (unless you’re unlucky and end up doing both at the same time, which has been known to happen).Yes, Myles was a bit of a thrill seeker in his younger years, but sharks are one of his spirit animals; majestic and graceful under the waves, things he likes to think he emulates on top of them.
- Uluwatu, BaliFor Myles, there’s something spiritual about surfing the waves of Bali, even more so than anywhere else in the world. That could be because of the infamous Balinese temple you must traverse in order to get to the beach. Either way, he always feels invigorated after a surf trip Bali.

No doubt about it… if it was an angry or scary ghost I’d run screaming… the ghost of a child or one that just seemed upset I’d try to talk to them.
I think it would depend on the type of ghost I saw too, but sometimes kid ghosts can be the most scary!
