This post makes me hungry! 😀
Proof that reading about food in whatever form, articles or story, could boost my appetite. I’ve no preference on what mentioned on the pages – pies, meat, cakes, desserts, anything – I virtually gained pounds just from writing this. LOL.

Reading makes me hungry for sure. It started when I was a kid, with Enid Blyton’s The Famous Five, and it’s continued ever since. That’s why I always try to have some more or less healthy snack at hand when I’m reading (mostly some home-made dark chocolate cookies… that counts as healthy, doesn’t it) to accompany my Earl Grey Cream tea…

Very interesting post. I’ve never looked at food in stories the way you described. Guess I’ll have a new angle reading from now on 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

I know what you mean about food giving us a glimpse into the lives of the characters… the amount of food they can afford… Just look at Adam in ‘ Candy Man’ by Amy Lane! The sandwiches he gives/receives mean more than just a meal to stave off hunger. They mean someone cares…

I love books with the food as a background and telling device about the characters. Especially when one of the guys is a good cook and pleases the other with his expertise in the kitchen. Especially at breakfast!

I can understand food in books making readers crave the same food. I love watching food shows and reading about it but I rarely indulge in the same foods I read or see on tv.
