REVIEW:

Allan Clark is the popular guy in his college football team whilst Tyler Leigh isn’t. Allan has just been made the new punt returner for the Wildcats, to say he’s not happy to be taken out of the wide receiver position is an understatement! That is until he plays the first few games, he quickly realises he should have been there all along. He just hopes the scouts will still notice him in his new position because football is where his life is. Along with playing better one of the other perks to being the new punt receiver is that he now gets to spend time with Tyler Leigh. For some reason, Allan never really allowed himself to notice Tyler all that much but now he’s noticing him alright!

Tyler has always had a thing for Allan but he’s never could act on it as he has had a boyfriend, Blake Jackson. Blake used to be the primary quarterback until a nasty elbow sprain got him moved to the backup position. The one thing it didn’t/couldn’t do was make Blake a nice person. Blake is an asshole of the highest order but when he comes into the showers after their game and starts attacking Tyler verbally all Allan can do is stand there and stare. It’s not until Blake goes to hit Tyler that Allan steps in and that’s when Blake starts to really hate Allan. Tyler didn’t have the best upbringing and when Blake decided he wanted Tyler, Tyler didn’t have the courage to say no and when he started belittling him, verbally and physically abusing him Tyler decided he deserved it so he didn’t really do anything about stopping it.

When Allan steps in to defend him, Tyler is terrified that Blake will hurt him so he tries to get Allan to stay away from him but now that Allan has Tyler’s attention he’s not about to walk away. Even though Tyler doesn’t really believe Allan isn’t afraid of Blake he does enjoy the attention he’s getting. Allan is just as determined to make Tyler believe he’s worth a lot more than Blake and so he sets about to teach him just how he should be treated. The longer they’re together the more Tyler starts to believe what Allan is saying and he must admit he really likes being treated like he matters.

I have no hesitation in recommending Making the Play to everyone who loves reading spots orientated m/m romance stories. Making the Play is about two young men who come to realise just how much they complement each other. Tyler needs all the help he can get with his extremely low/non-existent self-esteem whilst Allan needs help with keeping his head out of the clouds and his feet on the ground when it comes to his future and the decisions he needs to make.
