REVIEW:
The blurb for Joshua was pretty intriguing, so I decided to snatch the book up and give it a whirl. I mean really, dragon shifters, a matchmaking service, and guaranteed happily ever after? Sounds good to me. Well, it was definitely a steamy short story for sure. But, for me it was hard to enjoy the story as much as I wanted to. I ended up with too many questions and not enough backstory for my tastes.
Joshua is desperate. As a dragon shifter, he is ready for the next step in his life. Well, almost ready. The only thing missing is a partner to help him transition into his new life. After exhausting all of his options, his last chance is to meet with someone from Faeted Matchmaking Agency. There, Joshua learns that they have the perfect match for him; an eagle shifter named Rex. And, they are set to meet at the next matchmaking social in a couple days.
Joshua and Rex’s first meeting is quite steamy, that’s for sure. I’m just not sure that they’re meant for each other. I am also confused on the whole dragon shifter needing a partner to advance to the next stage in their life thing. Honestly, I wholeheartedly believe that the story has great potential, if expanded even into a novella. That way, there can be more of a backstory, and dragon shifters life stages can be expounded upon. And, we can see Joshua and Rex’s relationship develop a bit more. Joshua’s not a bad story, it just has a ton of potential to be much better than it is.

I agree about this needing expansion, Danielle, and don’t understand all of the extremely short releases I’ve noticed recently. 40 pages is a chapter, not a book, IMO. Even “novels” have dwindled down from 400+ pages to an average of 200, which used to be a novella.
I think it’s due to the ever-shortening attention span of readers these days, and perhaps a few greedy authors. How much does this chapter cost, I wonder? At least it’s forthcoming about being an incomplete story, part of a series, by stating “book 1”, even though I personally don’t consider 40 pages to be a book.
