It’s never easy to find redemption.
Carrying scars and regrets, River Darcourt avoids too much intimate contact. Among his friends, he is known as a quiet loner. Forget about love. It’s not something he will consider… until sweet, young, and tempting Morgan Hayes becomes his housemate. River closed his heart long ago, but the attraction is impossible to deny.
Morgan Hayes needs a change. He is moving out of his critical father’s home and in with his friends, including his secret/not-so-secret crush, River. Having feelings for River is a terrible idea. But what is a guy to do when the annoyingly sexy mechanic is just across the hall?
While Morgan has overcome ugliness and is ready for love, he’s just not sure River ever will be. They have both experienced pain in their lives. So Morgan dares River to take a chance, and love will either break their fractured hearts in more pieces or, just possibly, make them whole again.
REVIEW:
Secrets of You is the fourth book in the Sunshine and Happiness series. As each story deals with a different couple I think this book can be read as a standalone. If you are a fan of the series, you finally get River and Morgan’s story and meet all your favorite guys, Ian, Cole, Owen, Andrew, Marc and Tomas. If you are new, like I am, you get a great set of characters, two great guys for MCs, and a certain urge to get all the previous books to read as soon as possible. Looking back I would say this series should be best read from the beginning in order to get a better understanding of the certain dynamics going on between the different secondary characters. That being said I still had a wonderful time enjoying it on its own.
The writing is great, very descriptive and powerful, showing all kinds of emotions and complex characters with big hearts and unavoidable flaws. The characters have depth and lots of layers. There’s an underlying secret lingering in the background about River’s past that keeps the tension on the peek. I wouldn’t say it’s an action packed story, but it has enough events and surprises to keep your attention and also lots of emotions and inner struggles River and Morgan are going through throughout the story. Both of them have serious baggage to carry and we get to see the way they finally let each other in each other’s lives to help deal with their pasts. I really liked the slower build up and the emotions between the MCs are palpable. Their connection is deep and well deserved, and their chemistry is wonderful. There’s plenty of fun and well written sexy-time perfectly balanced with the plot.
I really enjoyed the plotline with all the details and I couldn’t stop reading. There are still a few things in the open, so I seriously hope we can read more about these guys in the future.
