A warm welcome to author Garrett Leigh who joins us to talk about new release “Rented Heart”.

Let’s talk inspiration. Where did the idea for Rented Heart come from?

A lot of people have asked if it was Pretty Woman, and I’d have to say NO—the idea was originally sparked by an article I read in a local paper many years ago. My father’s family hails from the Norfolk area and we spent many summers there as a child. The article was about a local millionaire who’d lost his wife and taken up with the barmaid from the village pub. Obviously, there was far more to it, and Rented Heart careened off in a totally different direction, but the idea of a second chance no one wants you to have stayed with me.

Do you have any writing quirks that readers don’t yet know about?

I doubt it. I think folk are used to my coarse dialogue and food obsession by now.

What character in your book are you most likely to get along with? Least?

I think I’d get along with Cass from Misfits the best, as he’s my kindred spirit and likes to sleep till noon. Rupert from What Remains would infuriate me as he’s just sooooo bloody nice and PATIENT. I’m far to belligerent for shit like that.

Do you have any websites or writing resources you love to use and could share with us?

The only resource I think truly helps me is to read as much as possible. Not just queer romance, but all kinds of fiction. Anything that stimulates my lazy imagination.

Where is your favorite place to write?

My bed, but I’ve recently taught myself to work at my desk like a grown up. Doubt it will last long, but I’m trying to adult better.

About Rented Heart

 

Ex-surfer-turned-businessman Liam Mallaney moved back to Holkham, Norfolk, to mourn the loss of his husband. Grief and loneliness keep him a solitary figure, and he likes it that way. There’s no room in his broken heart for anything else.
