REVIEW:
Donovan and Declan are twins who have a deep abiding love for each other. The only problem is the love they have for each other isn’t only brotherly love. When Donovan realised the love he felt for Declan wasn’t the normal love a brother should feel he left not only his home, he left the state. What Donovan doesn’t know is that Declan has been in love with him since he was thirteen years old, he’s even been to see numerous councilors who all told him the same thing, move on, it’s not natural to be in love with your brother.
For years the only contact Donovan and Declan have had is when Donovan has gone to Declan’s rescue when his asshole of a boyfriend Chet, hurts him. When Declan went back to Chet after a particularly bad beating, that was when Donovan left town. This time when Declan called not only has Chet hurt Declan he threw him out of a window! When Donovan see’s Declan for the first time in years he can’t believe the changes in him. Declan has to walk with a cane he has scars all over his body and a huge angry scar running down the side of his beautiful face. Donovan immediately wants to kill Chet but he’s disappeared.
Neither brother is aware of the other brother’s feelings until Declan meets Donovan’s best friend and on again/off again lover Marc. The only reason Marc tells Declan who Donovan is and has always been in love with is after Declan questions him about if Donovan has a girlfriend and has he ever been in love with anyone? Marc explains he has been in love with Donovan for nearly fifteen years but he also knows that Donovan can’t commit to anyone other than Declan.
Once Declan is aware of Donovan’s feelings he sets about convincing him that he has been in love with him for years and now that he knows he wants to pursue a relationship with Donavan and not live a lie anymore. As they’re working on their relationship they both realise that they really want to include Marc if he’s agreeable. Marc jumps at the chance to have the man he’s loved for years and to begin a relationship with the man, his man has been in love with for years!
It’s while they’re discovering each other that they realise that Chet has found Declan and they have to protect not only him but Donovan as well. As they have recently learnt, Chet knows that Declan is in love with Donovan since he screamed Donavan’s name instead of his one night!!
Yes, being in love with your sibling is wrong on so many levels but as you read Stepping Stones you realise that the depth of love between Donovan and Declan is so deep and intense that them being brothers, twins-to-boot, it seems to fade in your consciousness. I have no hesitation in recommending this book to you to read.
