The name’s Lio, and you may have read the beginning of my story in A Cupid’s Wager. Well, hold on to your hats, because there’s more to tell about your favorite cupid working in the Gay Division of the Inter-Dimensional Association of Cupids.
Remember Ethan? That Aztec god of the winds who busted me shooting a closeted human with a gay lust arrow? Yeah, I haven’t been able to forget him either. Even though I have a rule against getting it on with other supernaturals—especially ones working for the Straight Division—my magic is drawn to Ethan and all his tattoos and piercings in a way I cannot control.
But after that night of mind-numbing sex, now I gotta face my evil ex-boyfriend and a suspension by the IDAC for “misplacing” arrows. They took my quiver, and I have to figure out how to get my arrow privileges back before they’re taken forever.
Ethan seems to think he can help me, but I don’t know how anybody can make this cupid believe in love again.
First Edition published as A Cupid’s Wager by Dreamspinner Press, 2014.
REVIEW:
Once upon a time there was a short story called A Cupid’s Wager about a cupid named Lio who’s caught shooting unauthorized lust arrows by the Aztec God of Love, Ethan. I thought the story was great; I loved the characters and the setting and the chemistry between Lio and Ethan made me sit up and say ‘yum!’. But like a lot of other readers, I wanted more; I was practically begging for it because I was in no way done with these two men and the story that I’d found myself so intrigued with. Now, with the release of Naughty Cupid, I finally got the story I’d been waiting for and I am so happy to say that it exceeded my expectations. 😀
While parts of the beginning will be familiar to anyone that read the original short story, there’s now a prologue hinting at a much deeper story in regards to Lio that interested me right off the bat and the first confrontation between Lio and Ethan was just as explosive, if not more so, than the original but that’s where the expanded story really takes off. Things are also much more complex than I ever would’ve thought in this version and there was a great deal happening behind the scenes that you don’t get to see until later which really added to the emotional impact in my opinion.
The chemistry between the two main characters was just as present and believable this time around with the added bonus of getting to see them more as people. I loved their interactions and how their personalities were given leave to shine both in and outside of the bedroom. There’s a decent amount of sex included, all of which was just super hot, but there was also a lot of care taken between the two men and it never once felt as though the sex was more important than the story itself. The very best part about this book, however, was just how satisfied I was overall and with the ending. Nothing was left feeling unfinished, everyone got what they deserved, and there was a lovely happily ever after that left me feeling great when the story was through.
I LOVED this! It was completely worth the wait for what the author delivered here and I just can’t seem to get over the feeling of utter satisfaction now that I’ve finished the book. Lio and Ethan were given the story many of us wanted and while I’ll always enjoy the original story, this one is what they really deserved. Total kudos to the author for managing such a great expansion of a good story! If you like fantasy, or maybe just a hot romance with a mythological flair, this could be the book for you. 🙂
