Before jumping into his first semester of college, Thomas Maloney decides to lose his virginity at a party to a stranger he’s sure he’ll never see again. Only the next day, he’s surprised to learn the same one-night stand will be sharing his dorm room. Thomas considers himself lucky, but his new roommate—not so much. Closeted as they come, football jock Remington “Rem” Daniels is on track for a shot at the pros. Rem tries to play it cool and avoid falling for the confidently gay Thomas, which could hurt his chances. Dealing with their constant need to get in bed together wouldn’t be so hard if Rem didn’t have a girlfriend and Thomas didn’t have a conscience. When she delivers news that will change Rem’s life forever, Thomas knows it’s time to move back home to Thornwood, Colorado. But neither the distance nor knowing Rem belongs to someone else helps Thomas get over him. Rem’s feelings haven’t changed either. When it comes down to love or football, Rem will have to make the hardest choice of his life and hope Thomas will still be waiting for him when he does.
REVIEW:
The night before he is due move into his college dorm Thomas Maloney decides it’s time to lose his virginity. He gets invited to a party and spends all night looking for a likely candidate who he finds right before leaving. As it’s a masked party nobody really knows who is who so everybody has let their inhibitions go, the amount of alcohol flowing doesn’t hurt either. Thomas can’t believe he found someone so good-looking and practically perfect to take his virginity.
When he moves into his dorm room and his roommate comes in Thomas can hardly believe his luck, it’s the guy from the night before. When they introduce themselves he finds out his ‘firsts’ name is Remington “Rem” Daniels and Rem is so far in the closet it’s not funny. Rem also has a girlfriend Angela he’s been going out with for the last five years. Thomas is heartbroken, he really thought there might be something between them but Rem soon puts everything into perspective for Thomas. Rem is a football jock; he’s going for the Pro’s so he can’t be out and he’s got a girlfriend.
After meeting Angela Thomas tries his best not to have sex with Rem again but he can’t resist him and so begins his time of being Rem’s “bit in the side” that no-one can ever know about. Everything is going just fine until the day Angela comes over to the dorm and informs them that she’s pregnant! Everyone is in a state of shock. Because Thomas is adopted and his parents still foster kids, Thomas asks Angela and Rem if they aren’t going to keep the baby would they be agreeable to his parents adopting it. After multiple meetings it’s agreed that Thomas’s parents would adopt the baby and nobody at college ever found out that Angela and Rem were going to have a baby.
Thomas realised he couldn’t handle being in the same college or the same room as Rem and Angela seeing as he was so in love with Rem. After the first semester Thomas drops out of college and goes home to Thornwood, Colorado he enrols in college online and continues his education from home. Angela has a baby girl Madeline and that’s the first time Thomas see’s Rem, in photos from his parents after the birth. When they bought Madeline home Thomas could hardly look at her she looked so much like Rem but then he started spending all his time looking after her. Everyone thought she was Thomas’s child and his parents were helping him look after her, he never told anyone any different. The agreement was that Rem and Angela could ring on Madeline’s birthdays and find out whatever they wanted to know.
Rem and Angela get married and after the graduate from college Rem gets drafted into the Pro’s and they live their fairy-tale life in the big city while Thomas is at home in Thornwood raising their daughter because she’s the only link he has to Rem. Throughout this time Rem carries on a “phone affair” with Thomas and then Rem rings with the news that he and Angela are getting a divorce because he finally decided to own up to Angela about being bi-sexual. Then Rem proceeds to tell Thomas that he’s been having sex with a multitude of different guys over the last several years!
What I have a very hard time understanding is that Thomas remains devoted to Rem even when Rem tells him he’s a serial cheater. He has never not cheated on Angela and because Thomas wasn’t there to sleep with him he had sex with basically whoever was available. I’m sorry but I have a real problem with people being treated like a doormat and accepting it!
