BLURB:
Not even his mother’s funeral can convince self-proclaimed party boy Zach Johnson to tone down his snark or think about settling down. He is who he is, and he refuses to change for anyone. When straight-laced, compassionate Aaron Paulson claims he’s falling for him, Zach is certain Aaron sees him as another project, one more lost soul for the idealistic Aaron to save. But Zach doesn’t need to be fixed, and he refuses to be with someone who sees him as broken.
Patience is one of Aaron’s many virtues. He has waited years for a man who can share his heart and complete his life, and he insists Zach is the one. Pride, fear, and old hurts wither in the wake of Aaron’s adoring loyalty, and as Zach reevaluates his perceptions of love and family, he finds himself tempted to believe in the impossible: a happily ever after.
REVIEW:
For some reason, it’s become my thing to listen to Cardeno’s audiobooks. Not that I mind in the least. I read these books years ago and then to have them read to me by the very talented Alexander Collins…it’s totally worth it!!
Zach Johnson…Zach has become that person that needs no one. He’s not the commitment type, as he believes that he’s not worth one. Zach has felt alone his entire life. His mother and step-father have never treated him the way you should treat a child and his older brother who bailed after their father passed away…that hurt Zach and helped contribute to his whole…I’m not meant to be with someone. I have to say that I really wasn’t feeling Zach for the longest time in this story. I got where he was coming from…but Holy Hannah…at what point do you realize that only YOU can decide how you want your life to be?
Aaron Paulson…he’s just the most perfect person EVER!!! He’s sweet, kind, generous to a fault and kinda sweetly clueless about his own attractiveness. From the moment Aaron hit the screen…you fall in love with him and you just want to hold him in your arms and love on him FOREVER!! I like that Aaron’s past isn’t the Pollyanna like past of really sweet and kind people. He has lived his life and has just waited for the person who called to his soul. Aaron is really this wonderful man who is just the most gentlest, giving person and yet, he’s doesn’t realize his own worth. He’s always given to others and not given much to himself and once he’s found Zach….well Zach…well he’ll give himself some Zach. Aaron really did seem to good to be true and yet, it totally fit his character.
Now, I have to say that Zach’s brother, Dean and his wife, Kim…they did need some help a few times in their lives and I felt as if they did take advantage of Aaron for a long while, yet…they seem to truly enjoy Aaron’s company and though they really need to learn to do more for themselves and allow Aaron to live his life more, they were really good people. I have to say that Dean…Wow…did he have a temper on him when he found out what his step-father had done to Zach….You Go Boy!!! Their Step-Father was a Jackass and had no redeeming qualities. Their deceased mother…I was really angry with her the Entire book because Zach is her son and she should have loved and protected him and instead…she treated him like shit. She allowed her son to be abused by her 2nd husband and did Nothing to protect him. Bad Mother!!!
As you all know that the sexy times in a Cardeno C story are ALWAYS
Overall, I have to say that I really loved this book. Zach took awhile for me to really get into him, but once he did…I was rooting for him to see that he has value and that he can do a commitment.
The Very Best Part of the story was the Bonus Scene that was done. So sweet and just added to the story.
Narration:
Alexander Collins…This man has just got me wanting to listen to any of his stories. I love the sound effects i.e. the way it sounds when they are on the phone-it sounds like they are talking over the phone line. I have to say that I ALWAYS enjoy when an audiobook truly takes you into the story and everything that the characters are doing comes across in the story and Alexander does that Every Damn Time!!
Alexander brings a world of talent to his narrations and the time seems to fly by and then you’re at the end and are like…How Did That Happen? You fall into the story because Alexander does each character voice like you think they would sound and each voice is so damn distinctive. You KNOW who is speaking just by the voice you hear.
I Love Alexander’s work and I truly can’t wait to hear more of it!! Keep Up The Great Work, Alexander!!!
