New Orleans is the ideal city for a man that loves wild nights and wild men. As a special agent of the FBI his job affords him the ability to indulge his dark fantasies of seducing criminals before arresting them.
When he is assigned a case in his hometown the past that he left behind comes flooding back. The secret that he still hides, a boyhood crush, his first love, his sexual awakening, all of it is still waiting for him. As he assists the local police in their murder investigation the secrets of his past begin to reflect in the clues of the case. It’s only when he realizes that dealing with the demons in his own life will he be able to stop a serial killer.
REVIEW:
Wow, what a fantastic book! Can I stop there? No? OK, stand by because I’m about to rave again. An author friend posted a link on his Facebook page the other day with a high recommendation to read this book which is currently free on Amazon in the US. I am so glad I clicked on the link.
Mr. Renfro has brought us a murder mystery whodunit, with gay characters, a gay FBI agent, a bunch of “straight” men who like to have sex with other men, and set it in the middle of one of the most intolerant parts of the country. The characters were very well written and described, and the setting and locations were very clear. I actually felt like I was in the scenes with the characters.
I have to give Mr. Renfro compliments for opening the book with a sex scene. I’m not sure I’ve ever read another book which starts with a guy blowing a load in a main character’s mouth within 50 words of the Chapter 1 heading! The MC is Sean Tyler, the hook-up is a criminal that Sean has been shadowing. I was instantly hooked, and couldn’t put the book down until I finished the last page.
Sean Tyler grew up in the small town of Decatur in Meade County, Mississippi, a map dot on the border of both Louisiana and Arkansas. In other words the middle of nowhere. He is a great looking guy, who played sports, and always succeeds in whatever he does, whether it is fighting crime, or convincing other nice looking men to have sex with him. Right after high school, he went to college and never returned to Meade County, instead joining the FBI and settling in New Orleans.
Sean has been sent back to the small town where he grew up on a direct request from the sheriff of the town he grew up in. One problem right away is that he used to have sex with Mark Mason, when they were in high school together…long before he was Sheriff Mason. Sean was also having sex with one of the teachers, Mr. Adcox. It was Mr. Adcox who was responsible for Sean leaving town. In a pique after Sean broke off having sex with him, the teacher went to Sean’s fundamentalist Baptist family and told them that Sean had been hitting on him inappropriately. You can imagine how that went over, so Sean left and has never looked back.
Now two young gay men have been killed within a week of each other, and clues tie both crimes together. Is there a serial killer at work? When a third body is found in a car in the local lake, things heat up for Sean and the local police looking for answers.
I really enjoyed the dynamic between Sean and the other men in the book. He seems to have a magic power when it comes to getting other men, whether gay or straight, to have sex with him. One thing the book does not lack is hot sex scenes. In fact, it has some of the hottest I’ve read in quite some time. But it also has a great story. It kept me enraptured the entire time I was reading it….right up until 1:40 AM this morning when I finished it!
I very highly recommend this book. It is the first work I’ve read by the author, but it definitely won’t be my last! Go hit one click right now. If you are into serial killers, FBI agents, lots of gay sex and a murder mystery, you will love the book!
