Work. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. Such is the life of twenty-four year old loner, Micah Salvo. Forced to take a vacation from his two jobs but not having enough money to escape, he visits a local summer fair. He only went to ride the rides and watch the people. What he didn’t expect was someone to watch back and possibly give him a chance to change life as he knew it.

REVIEW:
Micah just wants to spend an evening doing something fun. He works hard, and he’s tired of being harassed by his old creepy landlord. He’s got a few dollars in his pocket and off he goes to the fair. He wanders for a bit, deciding how to spend his money, when he is stopped in front of a tent by a man offering to tell his fortune…
This story is about one of those moments that we all have that could change a life forever. I’m sure none of us have had the exact same experience as Micah, since he meets a vampire at a summer fair, but we’ve all be at that moment of choice. Do I follow one path and go home and be safe? Or do I follow the other and take a risk? Micah seems like a pretty stable guy, he’s lonely, has no family, and doesn’t live in a great place. But he’s calm and hopeful. He has a plan, work, save money, and move. But maybe this evening at the fair will change that path.
I liked this story, it has the potential to be the beginning of a great story of adventure for Micah and Omar (the vampire). It’s just one evening, one moment in time, one ride on a ferris wheel, but there could be something there for this pair. I liked the writing, I felt the summer fair, and the curiosity it brings out in Micah. Omar is a big mystery, we don’t get much from him. That left me as curious about him as Micah is. He really has that dark broody vampire thing going on that is so cool. I will say he refers to Micah as “Loner” repeatedly and I found that a bit harsh… But overall I think this was a good little summer story. I’d love to see a continuation of this story so we can see what happens next.
This is a great anthology if you are looking for some fun summer stories!
