But as Ethan makes the familiar drive to his best friend’s house, an unexpected detour and a bewildering passenger take him through places in time he’d long forgotten. Suddenly Ethan sees Jude’s actions over the years from a different perspective, but it’s his own reaction that’s the biggest surprise.
REVIEW:
Ethan Baker is a Golden Globe winning actor who has just been dumped by his latest girlfriend and the first person he thinks of? His best friend Jude Harrison. Jude is the only person who has always been there for Ethan, from the moment they met when they were teenagers Jude has always put Ethan first and that is what this book is all about.
Whilst Ethan is driving to Jude’s house after being dumped he has to stop for a woman who appears in the middle of the road. When Ethan gets out to make sure she’s alright, he gets the surprise of his life not only does she know who he is, she knows everything about him. Things get a bit freaky when she takes him back in time to show him important snapshots out of time. As they go through these moments Ethan remembers mostly everything, except he didn’t know if it wasn’t for Jude he wouldn’t have gotten his first acting part and he never realised just how many sacrifices Jude made for him over the years. He can’t work out what he’s supposed to do or know or understand about what has transpired throughout his life with Jude until they get to the last place, that’s when it slaps him in the face.
Ethan can’t believe how blind he’s been, he has apparently been too wrapped up in himself to notice how Jude has always done everything in his power to make Ethan’s life easier and when he examines his feelings towards Jude everything falls into place for him. Ethan can’t wait to tell Jude what happened and that he’s sorry he’s been such a self-absorbed idiot!
All-in-all Places in Time is a sweet short story reminding us not to become so self-absorbed that we take the people closest to us for granted, you never know where true love is going to be found. I would have no hesitation in recommending this book to one and all!!
