Successful lawyer Santi Herrara couldn’t be happier with the direction his life is taking. Not only is he on track to becoming a partner in his law firm, but he’s planning his wedding to Hank Burton, a south Texas contractor who has made a name for himself despite his humble beginnings. The introverted, lone wolf Santi and the friendly, outgoing Hank complement each other perfectly. From the moment they laid eyes on each other, they were hooked, and as far and Santi and Hank are concerned, a happily ever after is their destiny.
But fate deals them a devastating new hand.
A construction accident leaves Hank with severe head trauma and brings him precariously close to death. When he awakens, Hank doesn’t remember Santi or the love they shared for the past three years. Santi faces the the greatest challenge of his life. Can he respark a flame his lover can’t recall? And can he stop the diverging paths that fickle fate charts between them?
Santi however, has faith in the love he and Hank shared and in the words his father once spoke to him: “It’s never too late to fall in love. All over again.”
Hi, everyone. My name is Jacob Z. Flores, and I’m thrilled to be back here at Love Bytes. I’d like to thank the beautiful Dani for hosting me today and for sitting down to interview me. I just love her to pieces!
( I love you too Jacob 😉 )
How did you research the head trauma/memory issues in Please Remember Me?
I actually looked at several medical sites on amnesia. I knew there were different types, but I didn’t realize exactly how many there were. I knew Hank would suffer amnesia from a severe head blow, so I had to find the right one and understand how the amnesia happened as a result of the accident and then how it would affect Hank afterward.
There were also some good sites that explained the effects of amnesia on the loved ones of the inflicted. Those really helped me understand that the story wasn’t really going to be Hank’s but Santi’s. While Hank would be forgetting his life and the man he loved, it was going to be Santi who had to deal with the after effects of having the man who had stolen his heart not remember anything about him.
Readers who read Please Remember Me call it very personal and intense, care to elaborate on that?
It’s true. I put a lot of myself in Santi, and a lot of my boyfriend Mike into Hank. I based their actions and personalities on ours with a slight twist. But people who know us or who follow us on social media can definitely see aspects of our lives in the book. For example, the Pokemon party they accidentally attend. That really happened to us in San Diego last year. It was quite an eye-opening and hilarious experience. Who doesn’t find dancing dragons funny, right?
The Presidio is also a special place for us. We had a picnic there like Santi and Hank, and to this day, I remember laying on Mike’s chest and talking in the southern California sunshine. It was a very special day for us.
What about the side characters in this story are they going to have their stories told?
I love Mitch, Darren, and Jill, but no. Please Remember Me is a standalone. After everything I put the boys through, they deserve for this world to be all about them.
What is your favorite type of character to write and why?
Wow. I don’t know if I really have one. I enjoy all the characters I write. Each one has a different personality and quirks that make them unique. I do enjoy writing the characters who are like Hank though, the strong, loyal protective type. I’m drawn to them like they were my job or something. Maybe that’s why I’m with Mike.
What is your secret vice?
I am secretly planning to take over the world and establish myself the Emperor Of All I See. I’ve been laying the groundwork for years. I have moles everywhere, getting ready to launch the Weather Dominator that I will use to plunge this world into another ice age until all bow before me. Until that day, I just eat lots of ice cream and watch a lot of porn.
Describe your perfect Sunday for us:
Doing absolutely nothing. It’s either lying in bed with my man or sitting around in my pajamas, baking cookies, and watching television with my daughter. No grocery store. No laundry. Just time with my loved ones. It doesn’t get better than that.
What was the last book you read?
I’m currently reading To Catch a Fox by Geoff Knight and Ethan Day. It’s a great book, and I’m enjoying the chemistry between Fox and Tucker.
Can you tell us about your next writing project?
I’d love to. I’m actually writing a paranormal series called The Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge. It follows the lives of Mason, Thad, and Warren Blackmoor, and each brother will be the main character of his own book. There is a long reaching story arc through this series with lots of bad guys and supernatural characters, but the story is basically about the boys finding love and fighting to keep that love through the vampires, shifters, fae, zombies, witches, wizards, sorcerers and more that get in their way. The first book Spell Bound will release around May, and I’m in the middle of finishing the second book, which is titled Blood Tied.
The Please Remember Me Giveaway Contest
I’m hosting two different giveaways. At each stop of my tour, one lucky winner will receive a free e-copy of any book from my backlist.
At the end of my tour, I’ll be giving away a $50 gift certificate to Amazon.
Good luck to everyone and thanks for stopping and visiting with me today.
He stroked my back and kissed the top of my head. “Yes. But I will be back. And you will come see me in San Diego. It’s not ideal, but it’s the reality of our situation.” He placed his thumb under my chin and forced me to meet his gaze. “And remember, this is just temporary. Things will work themselves out, and you and I will be together for the rest of our lives. That’s my goal, and I hope it’s yours too.”
“It is,” I replied. “Which is why I need to ask you something.”
“What’s that?”
I led him to the couch, where I motioned for him to sit. When he sat down, I got down on my knee and pulled a small felt box from my pocket. “Ever since I met you, I’ve been drawn to you. You’ve brought so much joy to my life that I sometimes feel like I’m going to burst from the happiness. And holding you every night, feeling your skin against mine, is all of heaven I need to know. I know we’re going to be dealing with a long-distance separation for now. That’s just the way it has to be. But I’d like to ask you, Henry Gale Burton, if you would do me the honor of being my husband.”
Hank sat in silence, staring at the silver band I held in my hand. When he settled his gaze on mine, fat tears fell from the corner of his baby blues and a huge grin spread across his lips. “Of course I’ll marry you,” he said. “Nothing in the world would make me happier.”
He leaped out of his seat and into my arms, sending us both crashing to the floor. We ripped the clothes from each other’s bodies, but before I entered him, Hank placed the ring on his finger. Then he slipped me inside him, and the two of us once again became one.
“I’ll never forget this day for as long as I live,” Hank muttered.
I held him close, easing myself in and out of the man I loved more than life itself. “I plan on holding you to that promise.”
He smiled before kissing my lips. “I’d be upset if you didn’t.”

Jacob Z. Flores lives a double life. During the day, he is a respected college English professor and mid-level administrator. At night and during his summer vacation, he loosens the tie and tosses aside the trendy sports coat to write man on man fiction, where the hardass assessor of freshmen level composition turns his attention to the firm posteriors and other rigid appendages of the characters in his fictional world.
Summers in Provincetown, Massachusetts, provide Jacob with inspiration for his fiction. The abundance of barely clothed man flesh and daily debauchery stimulates his personal muse. When he isn’t stroking the keyboard, Jacob spends time with his daughter. They both represent a bright blue blip in an otherwise predominantly red swath in south Texas.

can’t wait for a PNR series!! coooool!!
Great interview. I remember reading about that Pokemon party in another interview and laughing so hard. Glad to hear it ended up in this story.
Thank you for sharing!. Love your Sundays, I wish mine could be like that.
It’s a great story. I laughed when I read about the Pokeman party because I follow Jacob and Mike and remembered it. I recognized some other characteristics of them both. Jacob did a great job with the amnesia and reaction to it. Highly recommend. Your Sundays sound great.
Loved the excerpt and the insights into the characters! Looking forward to reading this!
