Character Interview: Jasper and Cade from Mirage

Tia: So hi guys! Great to see you there, all out of my head and on the published erm… paper.

Cade: *grins big, makes sure his knitted cap is in place hiding his hair* Yeah, hi.

Jasper: *sips his coffee and grunts something*

Tia: Did you guys just wake up? But isn’t it like… afternoon?

Cade: Oh well…. The kids just left yesterday morning so we’re a bit….

Jasper: *grins in a distinctively wicked way* Loved up.

Cade: That’s a good way to put it.

T: Oh…. *clears throat* Speaking of the kids! I have someone wanting to know how Cade gets along with them these days?

(At this point, Jasper throws an indulgent look at Cade and lets him answer without butting in.)

C: They’re such awesome kids. Can’t help but to get along with them, really. I mean they don’t feel weird that I’m a guy. It’s probably more weird for them to have their dad with someone in a committed relationship than anything. *looks at Jasper and raises a brow*

J: I think so too. I was alone for such a long time.

T: How about the animals, how are they doing?

J: The dogs are fine. Sometimes we talk about getting a fourth one, but it would have to be pretty special to get along with the Munitions and Will.

C: Yeah. Not because our dogs are hostile or anything, more because we’re such a tightly knit group it might be tricky for anyone, human or animal, to fit in.

J: The horses are doing pretty well, too. We’ve been going riding more often, which is good. *shoots a look at Cade which Cade misses but I don’t, it’s pretty safe to say he’s planning on something*

T: So hey, I know I kind of stopped telling your story in a funny spot in some ways. I’m trying not to spoil anything, but I want to know this: Cade, did you manage to teach Jasper to surf?

(Both men burst out laughing, they have tears in their eyes by the time they stop.)

T: I take it that it was a fun experience, then?

C: *wipes his eyes and nods* Oh yes…. You put a forty-something country star cowboy from Texas on a surfboard…. *hiccups and starts to laugh again*

J: Let’s say that we will never let Jet see how I surf.

T: Right, Jet. For anyone reading this, Jet is one of Cade’s best friends and knows how to surf. Cade and Jet have a bit of a history—

(Jasper murmurs something like “To say the least…” under his breath.)

C: I honestly think things between Jasper and Jet are pretty great these days. They even call each other sometimes.

T: That sounds great! Although I had faith in them.

J: Of course you did….

(Cade nudges Jasper to play nice.)

T: So since this book revolves around music, I’ve another question from a friend to you guys: What’s Cade’s favorite song of Jasper’s?

(Cade thinks for a while and Jasper drinks his coffee quietly.)

C: I think it has to be Mirage. He wrote that without me and for me, so it’s pretty safe to say it’s my favorite, yeah. *flashes a blinding smile at Jasper that makes Tia’s breath catch*

T: How about the cover album?

C: I’ll have to go with a family favorite. Carrie Underwood’s Cowboy Casanova.

J: That’s become something of a hit on my shows, too. I still say it’s a bit weird to be singing a girl’s song but….

C: Shut up. It’s a great song!

J: Never said it wasn’t!

T: *clears her throat again* So I’m trying to figure out if I have anything else to ask….

J: I’ve not fallen off the wagon if that’s what you’re trying to get to.

C: Jasper….

J: That’s what everyone always wants to know.

T: I never had any doubt in you.

J: *grunts something again*

C: Can we ask you something?

T: Sure. I think.

J: Will you be poking and prodding at our lives more at some point?

T: Uh…. I’ve no clue. Maybe?

C: Shouldn’t you be more certain about that? I mean, shouldn’t you know?

J: Yeah, you’re the one who came up with us, for one.

T: I think it’s time to conclude this interview and… *hastily closes Word and runs for her sanity*

Author Bio: Tia Fielding is a thirty-something Scandinavian. She is a self-proclaimed queer person, lover of everything pretty, witty people, words, cats, sarcasm, autumn, and caffeine. (Lots of caffeine.)

Tia started writing stories early in life, almost as soon as she learned how to write. Her early stories about horses and ghosts have now turned into romantic tales about people in love, but her early enthusiasm and imagination still runs wild. After losing the thread of her writing in her teens, Tia rediscovered the joy of writing stories through fan fiction, which kick-started her publishing career. Tia is not ashamed of her past of borrowing other people’s characters, but has found creating her own much more satisfying.

In 2013 one of Tia’s novels was recognized by the industry’s Rainbow Awards in the Best LGBT Erotic Romance (Bobby Michaels Award) category.  You can find Tia on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/authortiafielding and her website can be found at http://www.tiafielding.com.

Blurb:

When forty-six-year-old washed-up country musician Jasper “Red” Blue looks at the past, all he sees is a series of failures. His one treasured success is six years battling alcoholism without the help of AA. To secure his children’s future, Jasper desperately wants to produce a new album, but he can’t write alone. And he won’t work with just anyone.  Jasper’s record company manages to secure the writer of one of the biggest country music songs in recent history to help write the album. Cade Wallace is a long-haired former soul surfer, devastatingly handsome, talented, and willing to take a chance on the rugged musician. Jasper, on the other hand, is deep in the closet.  With Jasper’s career hanging in the balance, he can’t promise Cade anything, and Cade eventually heads back to his full-time job as a truck driver, taking Jasper’s hopes of a relationship with him. If Jasper’s dream

of a life together is ever to come true, he will have to take some big risks, putting both his career and his children’s security on the line.
