TITLE: Waiting for Rain
AUTHOR: Susan Mac Nicol
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 280 Pages
BLURB: The village of Stamford, the quintessential chocolate box English scene, seemed an impossible dream for foster kid Toby Prentiss. Now he’s found a home among the haystacks and village fairs as the general manager for the Duck and Drake Hotel. With the fears and demons from his youth hidden away in this bucolic oasis, he’s very protective of who he lets in. Until he stumbles across shirtless carpenter Rain Engel building the hotel’s new custom-designed bar.
Working in the countryside, Rain prepared to face his biggest fear: sheep. He didn’t expect to deal with his second biggest fear: commitment. Toby’s controlled, tough guy façade coupled with his “find happiness where you can” optimism calls to Rain like nothing before. While Rain may be an exhibitionist, his romantic history forces him to hold his emotions close. As their relationship develops, secrets from their pasts drive a wedge between them: the ex-boyfriend who tore apart Rain’s trust and Toby’s history with the law. But can the secrets hiding among the quirky villagers bring them together? With missing sheep, pole dancing at the winter festival, and a crippling drought, everyone is waiting for Rain.
REVIEW:
Pre-warning: This stuff is too hot to handle, mates!!
Bloody hell! I think my air-conditioning system broke down after its last attempt to cool me down. Rain Engel – the man who stole my heart… Have you met Rain?? No? Well, then you are at a loss…
Rain Engel is a professional craftsmen doing wood work of all sorts and he gets a contract of working in one of the well known hotels in the town. Our main character – the lovely Toby, who is an eye-candy of gay men – finds this man lurking around the lobby shirtless and that’s how they meet. Oh God! Just reading about a shirtless Rain made me break a sweat. And he in bed – that too with a sexy guy like Toby? It was like a dynamite had blown and I was living the after-effects… phew! You just know these two are meant to be together from the get go.
And when I mean get go … it’s mostly a go for them all the time! Best described by Toby’s friend Tammy – They go on and on fucking like the effin’ rabbits. Not that I am complaining.. nope, not at all! It’s wonderful how every sex-scene written felt new and fresh. I will give the author credit for having a new trick everytime to please me with Toby+Rain time <3
But, well, this story is more than just the sex – though, you know, a lot of sex makes it worth it 😉 Ahem… what I was saying is, there’s a real plot beneath this whole erotic action going between them and of course there’s drama they get pulled into. I have felt sympathy for Toby after knowing about his dreadful past. Nobody should go through something like that, God! That poor guy was scarred for life because of the things that happened to him… but gratefully a man walks into his life and kisses all his boo-boos better. That’s the funny thing, you know? On top of being extremely hot and sexy, these characters (Rain, especially) manage to come off as sweet and adorable too!
And might I add – the phobia Rain has over sheep… bahahaha! It is hilarious, cute and so classic! I bet the scene – where Rain scurries away finding a sheep approaching him and hides behind the bushes – will come back to me quite often and leave me chuckling good for a while.
The end was just as perfect as the whole story was! Not to mention, there’s a special pole-dance performance by MY Rain Engel and it takes your breath away! It took mine away at least and that was the last level where my crush over him turned into high, unbearable lust. So, yes I am lusting over a book character now … pathetic!
I have to say, it was quite touching how Toby talked to his late mother at the end, assuring her that everything had turned out quite good in his life. It made me smile really.
So, are you already Waiting for Rain?! Don’t wait, go grab your own copy of this book, it makes for a quite memorable reading experience!
