We of the Blog of Sid Love are very proud to welcome Miss SJD Peterson to our Blog. SJD, who is also known as Jo, agreed to visit us in promoting her newest release “Pony”. Welcome Jo.
Let’s start of with the main reason for you to drop by, your latest release “Pony’, the 3rd book in the ‘Guards of Folsom’ series. Is there something at the start of this interview you want to share about that release?
First, thanks for having me on your blog! Pony huh? Well, I’m not really sure what I can say about PONY except, it’s nothing like the last in the series—Tag Team—That one became a personal journey for me dealing with some issues in my past that popped up while writing it. Pony is much lighter emotionally, and way hotter than Tag Team and let me just tell you… I had much more fun writing it.
Being a fan of your writing, I have followed your career for quite some time and I would like to go back to the first series you wrote, “Whispering Pines Ranch”.
Also because the grounds for this newest series lies there if I am correct?
Yes. Pony as are all the books in the Guards of Folsom series were born when I wrote a free story called Riveted. After finishing the WPR series, Ty was the only one who hadn’t gotten his happily ever after so as a thank you to the fans who followed the series, I wrote Riveted. The Guards of Folsom was born.
Your first book in that series is totally different and unexpected and thank god for the second I have to say. What made you start writing that series? And why did you end the first part how you did I wonder?
I have gotten so much ummm inquiries about Lorcan’s book. I think I made a few people upset with the ending. In fact, DSP wasn’t originally going to allow me to end it the way I did. I had to finish Quinn’s book before they agreed. I think where Lorcan’s book ended was a natural break in the story. I originally planned this to be one stand alone novel based on Lorcan and Quinn. It took on a life of it’s own and went places I never envisioned.
The Third part has Ty and Blake in it, the guys you wrote a free story about after finishing this series and who also have a place in the newest “Guards of Folsom”.Why the interacting between the characters?
As I mentioned above. I only meant for Riveted to be sort of a thank you for those who followed the WPR series and demanded Ty get his happily ever after. The funny thing about Ty is, he was never to be more than a random hook up in an alley way for Quinn. It still amazes me that Ty ended up with not only his own book, but his own series!!
I personally love the little snippets of familiar characters and the little peeks of other books but isn’t it a gamble doing that?
Sure I think it could be a gamble, but my fans have come to know of my evilness with the way I tease. I do believe one is even polishing the throne for me. You know for when I take over hell. LOL
People were begging you to write Micah’s story after the free short one about Blake and Ty , did you already plan to write his story and create a new series with that or did it come after the raving?
I had no intentions of ever writing anything more beyond Riveted. But as I was writing it, as I introduced new characters, they began worming their way into my head. I had some possible ideas for Micah and Tackett, but I didn’t seriously sit down and write their story until prompted by how well he was recieved.
These three books have totally different characters and different storylines. In the first we have Tackett and Micah fighting their own battles and making it work together.
We see Bobby, Rig and Mason in the second, a wonderful menage, and now we have “Pony” where we meet up with Max again whom we got introduced to before. Now we get to see how his relationship with Aiden begins and grows.
Is there a reason why you are exploring totally different ways of relationships in this series and also different ways of D/s relationships?
I had two reasons for writing this series the way I did. First, everyone has their own…. limits. Each book in the Guards of Folsom is based on a kink. The title pretty much tells you what kind of kink you’ll find between the covers. If someone say….has an issue with pony play, but enjoys menages, they can read Tag Team and skip PONY.
The second part of this answer is, these relationships are very different than most you’ll read about in any other series. Keeping with how I write, no real heros, common, every day people just trying to get through life, I kept that in mind when writing this series. Most of my Doms and subs have issues. Some Adult Attention Span Disorder like we see with Micah or Depression like we see with Mason. I’ve been dinged on my choice but….What I want people to understand is these based on real people with real issues and it’s not that BDSM is a cure all, it’s not. But, those in the lifestyle deal with their issues with what is available to them, what works for them and it may be different than the norm. They simply use what is available to them and what is right for who they are to overcome issues in their lives.
I had the pleasure to read Pony for a review and what a major surprise/twist you pull out of your hat there! I mean we get informed that Aidan’s youngest brother is gay and happily living with this male partner but wow when we find out his name “Lorcan” and then hearing about “Quinn” being his partner …. well double wow !
How did you ever think of that one? And how daring to go that way I would almost say..
Hmm. I don’t think I ever truly put Aiden to rest. No matter how long it had been since I last wrote about him, he was always in the back of my mind. I always wondered what happened to him and what his story was. I had no clue until I began the Guards and I discovered where my little Aiden had run off to. The Guards of Folsom is Jo’s world and you never know who you’ll see in the next book. Perhaps old characters will surface again in the future.
The next question is what is there to come? Who are we going to see in the next part?
The next book is ROPED. It’s the story of Tek & Jamie who Mason runs into at the end of his book. This book (Not that all of them are similar) but is totally different than anything else in this series. People have always asked me out of my characters who were my favorites. I always had a hard time answering that until now. Tek & Jamie are by far my favorite.
After ROPED is BOUND. Yeah that’s another one that is kind of a secret since see answer above!
I would like to ask you a few short questions:
Favorite food? Pasta
Favorite color? Blue
Favorite author? J.R. Ward
Favorite book? All of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books!!
Favorite way to spend a day off? I get days off? Never lol
Favorite movie? Band of Brothers
Favorite music or song? Pearl Jam is always my go to band, but I love most all music except rap and bluegrass
Favorite clothes? Jeans, hoodies and Converse.
Is there a book you adore in the M/M genre and keep going back to from time to time? Man this is a hard question since there are so many. Ummm of course the Cut&Run series by Abi Roux, Strawberries for Dessert by Marie Sexton and yeah way too many to list. This genre as some amazing authors!
Is there something you would like to write one day?
I just went over my schedule for this next year… I think the books I have to write this year are the ones I would like to write…my first “True Crime”, first Mystery and my first full length Paranormal….so yeah I’m stretchign myself in 2014
Would you want to do something else than being a writer and what would it be?
If I wasn’t writing I’d probably teach World History, but writing is my dream job and the only one I want to do.
Of course I cannot resist asking, with all the attention it has been getting, you are a member of the “Crack Crew” aren’t you? Would you mind explaining what the Crack Crew is?
The Crack crew is a bunch of crazy ass people and I mean that in the nicest way! Eric Arvin came up with an idea for an anthology, darker stories, somethign different and not necessarily romance driven. He entitled the anothology “Crack the Darkest Sky Wide Open” and the bunch of crazy ass people was given the official title of “Crack Crew” But seriously, the members of the crew are some of the greatest human beings I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.
Final question! Is there more coming from SJD Peterson besides the Guards of Folsom series?
After ROPED I’m putting the seires on hold for a bit. In 2014 You’ll see, Splintered, which is a fictional story with it’s roots based on True Crime. My first Mystery based story called Night Stick. More from Tuck & Owen in Sua Sponte, and finally I have plans to finish Innocence to the Max. Oh and perhaps somethign more from Mac & Gunny but it’s a secret so I can’t talk about it. Shhhhh
Is there anything you would like to share with your fans at the end of this interview ?

About The author:
It’s been an amazing journey since DSP first contracted Lorcan’s Desire in January 2011. I’ve published 2 free reads with the M/M Romance group, my back list is growing, met some great people and have made some amazing friends.
I’m still in shock that I’m listed among the many talented authors at Dreamspinner Press and Silver Publishing! The little voice in the back of my head is screaming, “You are so out of your league.”
Shhhhh I won’t tell them if you don’t 🙂
You can call me Jo, everyone does 🙂
